Now 3 series have better and newer interior design than premium 5 and 7 series. Nice job BMW!

My perspective is identical. Very nice digital cockpit. Wish the HUD could display more information selectable by the driver.

An "app store" is needed for this. You should be able to buy the "look" that you want for your dashboard the same way you buy a digital watch face. That way everyone can have what they want.

I am sure a lot of regulations are involved but within reason this should be possible. And a business, too.

NO! There's next to zero customization. I'm appalled. Here's a white board that you could do anything with and BMW gives us these mirrored gauges and that map-thingy in the middle. Can anyone tell me the use of all those lines and an arrow in the middle of this screen? It looks like a Jackson Pollard painting. Don't get carried away with a pretty display. It has zero additional functionality over traditional gauges. What a wasted opportunity.

^^^This. Audi's and Merc's digital cockpit is the way these things should be done. Real customization. One gauge. Two gauges. Small. Or big. Maybe a real nav map in the middle. Or a large audio display. BMW - how have you lost yet another opportunity to get this right???

btw, nothing beats iDrive. Thank god for that and a great HUD.

And lawsuits " I changed my dash and couldn't read it and got in an accident "

Someone will try and say that for sure.

For now you'll get the following and like it.

the BMW Operating System 7.0, content and displays are adapted to the context and can be personalised by the customer. For example, users can choose from 20 images for their personal profile. When the driver unlocks the car, he or she is greeted by name and with a 3D graphic representation of their vehicle, showing the exact model with its equipment package and base colour. This personalised vehicle view also appears in the "My car" menu. The welcome scenario includes suggested content in the Control Display, such as recent callers, calendar entries, task reminders or routes to destinations sent to the car via BMW Connected. These options are immediately available for selection by the driver.

There's a whole bunch of widget/app like thinks you can customize next to the tachometer. I saw a video where they changed it from torque/power ratings, to a g force meter, music, eco settings, etc. even if its less customizable than the MBUX or MMI system, its still has more to offer than BMW's current digital gauges, which can't even display maps in the dash.

Saw the new digital display in use in a car wow review of the new x5 and it looks so much worse than the digital displays in Audi and Merc. I was waiting to have an opinion until I saw it in use and now it's confirmed. I can't believe BMW brought this to market. Aside from bmw ditching round dials (why?) it looks so cluttered and unintuitive. I don't understand how they can make something as good as "idrive" and this is what they do for a digital display. I really think the digital display alone will make people chose a different brand.

I look at my HUD most of the time. Can you really do 49 mph on the M1 at 3 in the afternoon?

Finally BMW does this lol! I love my Audi Q7 with the virtual cockpit so I am glad they brought this to the BMWs now. Looking very exciting!

Passed on the Executive package on our X3 M40i because the digital display was weak, this would have probably got my money, even if Audi and Google Maps still has them clobbered.

Couldn't be further from the truth but change for the sake of change is not a good thing.

Never will be a more satisfying combo than watching a mechanical needle sweep a round analog tachometer all the way to redline before clak clak you slam your own manual gear lever into the next gear!

Call me old fashioned all you want, I call myself a purest.
