Not sure which is funnier. That fact you beat the hell out of the 640i, or that the dealership "called you father and complained".

Anytime I take my car in for service, I'm doing backflips for whatever loaner they give me. I can't tell if many of you are kidding around in this thread, but if not you have some seriously f'd up priorities in life.

I'm cracking with the comments lol

I'm surprised how little power that 2.0T has. I mean, wasn't 2.0 by themselves supposed to have enough power for sedans?

You sound like a great person.
Wow... You guys gotta chill. Don't tell me you have never abused a loaner or a fully insured rental car before. I don't buy it...

Driven a rental fast? Definitely yes! Abused one just because it was not mine? No, never.
I like cars too much to abuse them.

Nope. Never. If you call driving fast abusing the car, then yes. But not like what you've done. With the rentals I get for work, my company has a deal with Enterprise where the damage insurance is already included with the rental. So I could have the car towed back to Enterprise as a chunk of scrap metal and I wouldn't be responsible for it. But I haven't. It's not just that I am a car guy, it's more that I wouldn't want anyone to abuse my car if anyone had possession of it. It's mentality like yours where I have to go out of my way to minimize other people handling my car such as valet parking.

I'm part of the same generation and I don't recall ever abusing anyone else's property even if given to me to do as I please. It depends on how you're raised, now what generation you belong to.

Having said that, I'm surprised the guy was given a 640 considering it's above the price bracket of his 4 series/E9X M3. Here in Dubai they don't normally give "loaner" cars and even if they do it's usually a rental or at least something that's on the same level as the owner's car if not cheaper.

God I couldn't fathom driving a 318i, thank God they keep that thing over there...that and that horrid 2 Series minivan looking thing.

And for a lot of people here a 320i would be a nice upgrade, we're just a bunch of pretentious assholes.

Does your dealer usually not offer loaners? Thought it was a pretty standard thing for many dealers.

Yes they do, and I'm as appreciative as can be if they provide me a mid 80s Ford Fiesta to drive around in.

Of course by abuse I don't mean that I'll bring the car back as a piece of scrap. I don't, for example, deliberately curb the rims when parking and slam the door against a pillar. Nothing like that. By abuse I mean I take less care on the wearable components such as tires. I'm more willing to slide the car and won't baby the engine on a cold start before pushing. I know u love car. We all do here. But you gotta admit that you don't treat a rental as your own. You, for instance, will not spend hrs detailing your loaner would you?

No, I won't wash a loaner. That's not the expectation by the owner of the vehicle. The expectation is you won't abuse the privilege of having transportation provided to you whether that be a rental or a loaner. Again, by your shear admission above, you are just one of those elements in society that doesn't respect other people's property. I don't know anyone here who wouldn't consider going flat out wide open throttle on a cold engine NOT abuse.

Nice try in attempting to deflect this on me. Again, I don't do any of the crap you are trying to justify. When I park any loaner or rental I have, I park it like my own where I find an end spot and keep it away from careless people who wouldn't think twice about putting a dent in someone else's car....in other words the element.

First, a loaner and particularly a rental are not privileges. Companies that loan or rent out a car have calculated the risks involved and demanded adequate compensation accordingly. Any people go wide open on a cold car. While I agree that it's not a good practice, it can hardly be considered abuse.

Honestly, I loled when I read that took the care to find a good parking spot for a rental. I seriously just can't do that. You are entitle to continue to think that your righteousness makes you somehow superior and not babying a loaner somehow makes be a scum bag. But if you want to go down that path, I can assure you that many of the thing you have done makes you just as disrespectful of others. Have you every exceed the speed limit? Have you ever run a red? What about littering? Stop pretending to be Jesus...

+1

But to the OP, as bland as the 320i feels, the accord is still worse. Nothing tops the vanilla machines for sheer driving boredom.

Keep digging a hole for yourself.

Since your original post, how many people have appreciated your self justification posts? How many posts in response to yours has there been denouncing your childish behavior? I rest my case.

At the end of the day it's a courtesy provided by your dealer and not necessity. I would be grateful even if it's a 316i and I would treat it with respect because that is how I want my property to be treated. A lot of you sound like immature millennials with a sense of entitlement. Just because you own an m3 or m4 it doesn't put you in a higher category than anyone else. Dealers will buy a fleet of stripped 320's for the purpose to be courteous to you and each dealer has a different budget and different rules with loaners. Some will have better models, but you seriously should not complain. The engine platform did win some awards in its category so once again, stop bi**ing or take the bus.
