With the purchase of a CPO there is a separate maintenance plan. You pay for this (optionally, I believe) as part of the total cost of the CPO vehicle.

like I said it all depends on your driving you could obviously last 100k if you don't smash it. I've seen e46s come to our dealer with 110-130k on the original clutch (not m obv)

Free maintenance is *very* rare in the UK, you can buy two different 'service inclusive' packages from the dealer to cover your BMW if you want but no obligation to. Also you guys still have your warranty which isn't affected, me thinks the lady doth protest too much.

I think they are going this route to encourage more shorter terms of ownership (ie leasing/owners choice for the applicable states). More turn over, more new sold cars, more CPO eligible units, etc. Maybe to help rebuild the value in the brand?

I think I get it... I'm sure after the first go round of them doing this, they'll come up with some maintenance plan for the CPO buyer.

No need to leave for good, but maybe see if MB and Audi have anything up there sleeve.

I don't post often but, this caught my attention. This change in the maintenance warranty can be discounted and, rationalized in many ways but, make no mistake, it is a reduction in value. I lease an M4 and leased an M3 before it. I usually do about 45,000 mi. during a three year lease term. I have an M car and, lease it, because I like to DRIVE it, it is not a garage queen. I like to plan my costs and the 4 yr /50,000 mile maintenance warranty is an important part of that plan. I know i will likely need new brake pads and possibly front rotors before the end of the term, that is a large expense. Under the current warranty pads and rotors cost me $0. There is a reason BMW does not want to supply brake pads and rotors after 36,000 mi., because it happens! I don't want to get stuck with the bill when it does. The current worry free 4 yr./ 50,000 mi. maintenance warranty is a large part of why I pay what I do for my M car. Without a major reduction is the monthly lease payment to compensate for my inevitable increased maintenance cost, I will definitely be looking at other options. Also, know, that I really like BMWs and have for years so moving away from the brand is not a flippant decision, but it becomes an option I would not have considered before, because of this warranty change.

ok I think I'm out. Before I came to BMW several years ago. I owned 7 New Jeeps back to back. Brand loyalty I said. But after they started decreasing in quality (which was already low to begin with) I decided enough was enough and moved to another brand. I liked the BMW brand, how they ride and the quality the offered but since then and after owning 4 now it is time to move on I think. My new 3er has had more software issues that I care to mention and none have been totally fixed. And my Z4 has been in the shop for a tranny issue several times only to be told nope no problem here when I drive her regularly and know better. So after my tenure with these loans are over I will have to say good bye my friends in BMW land. Maybe ill build a vehicle myself since they jumped the shark.

Agree completely. Also with no other company paying for them either I don't see this as being a big risk to BMW.

Part of me thinks that long term it is better for people like me who will never go through brakes or a clutch in 50k miles and don't have interest in BMW paying for the ones that do (total costs are spread over all new cars).

I changed all four brakes on my last car (an Audi) at 145k miles.

S4, my biggest gripe is the dsg, pure shit, mostly from being over geared, and it plows unless you really get into the throttle and the tricky diff kicks in. Other things like the quality of the oil pan, ability to change oil - must remove the front areo panels, driver door needs to be slammed shut, driver window won't go up unless you hold it, front window molding is pushed in - factory install issue. It just seems like they cut every corner possible when making it (original iPod connector in 2016 with no USB port...). It has 4K miles so hopefully a few things can get fixed during the only free oil change.
Note my wife likes driving it, Quattro is awesome in the snow, she just hates listening to me bitch about it and point things out to her.

I think some of the people on their high horses commenting are missing the point.

Overall, when you get a bunch of free stuff and then you stop getting the free stuff it'll p@@@ you off. Seems totally reasonable to me. Just because your country never had this deal doesn't make our emotions about it invalid. Also, the brakes and possibly clutch can be a big deal. It's not about if you can afford to pay it yourself but about how you didn't have to pay before/spend time doing it yourself and you will in the future.

I have had a similar experience with my X5 3.5i. If I didn't have the additional 14K miles/12Months, I would have had approximately $3,000 in maintenance from the brakes and oil changes.
Emotional or not, this is a serious issue and I squeeze every penny I make...hard, so that I can maximize my enjoyment of life in a responsible fashion. That calculus includes a financial analysis of every car I purchase vs. the competitors and BMW has been almost impossible to beat when including the maintenance for a serial owner such as myself and many others on this board. If the maintenance goes away, I will probably do so, as well.

Yes. The cost to CPO a car varies by model. I believe that the cost to CPO my M6 was just under $3K.
