This is terribly sad news. My thoughts go out to the families effected. I can see exactly how this happened. The kid thought he was being safe and taking it off the street, which was a smart thing to do. But in the end just goes to show driving at high speeds no matter where you are with minimal amount of driving experience is never smart.

Feel bad for the parents and families, though.
Just glad their stupidity only costs them THEIR lives.
Oh well, so how about that Superbowl, huh?

RIP

This is all too much like a broken record. There's always some kid 16-18 owns a powerful fast car and claims he paid for it through his XYZ company and people need to quit hating. A huge argument would ensue between the members and then a couple days, weeks or months later the kid would crash the car killing himself and or his friends.

In the end it doesn't matter who pays for it. If one acts like an idiot or a baller, can't tell the difference these days, one will crash and burn. Physics has no empathy.

Natural Selection didn't eliminate all of the stupid genes here. Someone else purchased the alcohol (and the M5).

Sad story, but at least no innocent people were injured or killed. It was just a stupid move that cost them their lives, some call it Darwin's car

What the fuck was he doing on a runway? At 3am? With four other people in the car? After a party? In a 500hp car and 18 years old? Just plain stupid. Darwin Award for sure, but it doesn't make it any less tragic.

For those of us lucky enough to afford an M5 we all only wish we could have as nice ar car as you have now when we were 18. for me anyway not possible.

It really doesn't matter what car. It's the driver not the car.

Josh just got the M5 like 3 weeks ago, according to his posts. People catch hell here when they say an 18 y.o. will end up killing himself if you give him a high-performance car. It didn't take long for this guy to go and do it, and take 4 of his friends with him.

Crappy thing is, as a parent, even if you get your kid some safer, slower car, at some point he'll be riding with the kid whose parents bought him an M5. This is both sad and frustrating, because it's such a stupid way to die. My prayers go out to all the kids' families, who now have to deal with this horrible loss.

True, i remember back in highschool when i got in my friend's celica and he was going 110mph down a highway. Stupid? Yes it was, but when your 18,19 you feel invincible behind the wheel of a performance machine. Unfortunately these kids paid the ultimate price for it and didnt have the chance to mature and realize that it was stupid.

The M5 was his dad's. When im a parent im going to do the same my parents did for me. Anything over 150hp off limits. Although any car can kill you, but who wants to show off in a 1987 Volvo wagon? Let alone try to go higher than 80MPH.

I wonder how the other 4 kids' parents now feel about the parents that gave their 18 year old a 500 HP car.

I don't think they determined who was driving. He may have let one of his friends drive.

I wonder if there will ever be enough of these crashes to force a change in the law. In the UK for riding a motorbike when learning you can only learn on something with less than around 15hp. After passing the normal test you are limited to around 40hp or less for one or two years before you can ride any bike. The only way around this is taking the test on a larger bike when you are over 21(you can only ride a larger bike when you are with an instructor before passing the road test).

I remember the stupid things I did in my first car (a 15yr old VW polo with around 40hp) and the excitement when I could drive my daddy's car (a ford mondeo diesel with around 100hp). I now have a young daughter and when she can drive there is no way I would let her drive a car with 500hp on her own.

Anyway my condolences go out to those families affected.

How does an 18yr old kid get an M5? You would think the 500hp engine would throw a red flag to parents.

It was his dad's M5, you can thank irresponsible parents for that one.
