I thought I read somewhere it was to circulate air through a cooling channel for the lithium-ion battery. Then again, I’m reading this at the same time the bartender (me) was kind enough to provide a couple of heavy pours of Mcallan so I can just as easily be wrong 😜

I've noticed that in manual mode from a stop, you can shift into 2nd gear before actually moving. Kinda nice to get a smoother start when driving more casually.

I've also noticed plastic air scoops behind the rear tires... Not exactly sure what those do.

False. They are for cooling the lithium battery.

This is generally how all the ZF transmission work. At least on my last 2 cars that have it to include my X5 and my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

In reverse, hit the 'camera' button to make the rear camera display to go wide angle.

Bumping this up to see if there is any additional quirks or observations that can be added, thanks!

You may have already found out that it needs a new battery by now

Mine did the same a few weeks ago.

Did you use a battery tender/trickle charger regularly? I'm hopeful that doing so may extend the life of the battery a bit, but that's probably wishful thinking.

I was referring to your key fob and had the same issue in that pressing the open/close button did not work and so you had to touch the handle to open the car. Not sure how you would put a trickle charge on a key fob. You should also note when you start the car you will get a message in the instrument cluster to say the key fob has a low battery and in my case at the end that it had completely run out.

Ugh - sorry about that. Was reading through the thread too quickly! I thought the post was related to replacing the vehicle's battery. My fault.

I've always thought it was very cool that the headlights not only dim for oncoming cars, but at stop signs as well.

I think its more likely dimming due to the reflection of your own headlights off the stop sign and them perceiving them as oncoming headlights? I've never seen any documentation stating they dim to stop signs.

It came as a surprise to me, because I've not seen it documented either. Its worked at every stop sign that I've ever come to, and maybe just an unintended consequence, rather than great German engineering.

I’ve experienced the same in my F80 as well as my wife’s Q7. Pretty sure there is a minimum speed for auto high beams.

I think you nailed it. Anyway, it works great in the rural areas where I drive; especially good for hilly and twisty terrain.

I just got another car that doesn't have this! Once you're used to it, it's the biggest PITA to get used to pressing the button again. Every single time I go to my new car I pull the handle, then realize I have to find the key and unlock it.

Soft close doors are hard to get unused to as well. I always get in other peoples cars and barely close the door, they look at me like I'm an idiot and say it's not closed.

Since the default position for dimming is off at startup, I suggest you "take control" and don't turn them on to begin with.

I know we have hands free trunk opening because many times my trunk opens when I'm standing behind the car. But whenever I want to open the trunk and try kicking my foot under the bumper, it never works. Only seems to work when I don't want it to. 😂

Anyone got a trick to get the trunk to open hands free?

LOL, same! I always feel like an idiot swinging my legs around. A sideways motion seems to give a little more consistency, but not 100%. I still haven't figured out how to make it work every time.

Best repeatable results for me are when I kick straight in and underneath. Don't wave your foot around under it. One relaxed and straight under kick.
