Looks great Simon, how are you getting along with Black?, I ask as I am looking at a Black Mercedes AMG E63S and worried it will be a pain to keep looking good.

Will be honest John, Black is not my favourite colour, and it does take some looking after, if you want it looking its best all the time. Im forever fiddling with it, with polishes, and trying this and that on it, but, im like that with everything. Looks fantastic when clean, but a chore keeping it that way.

Not yet still in lock-down here, the one I am interested in is at the Docks, so not actually seen it yet, it's well speced with Carbon interior and Sports seats etc, I will go drive one when things ease a bit more, say two/three weeks time. Still not sure on Metallic Obsidian Black.

Yep but remember black can carry the dirty look well

The clean is just a bonus

I would never get black again personally, but if you want to get black and protect it this is what I do with my car:

You need a good, professional detailer to take the car IMMEDIATELY upon delivery. Don't even drive the car a single mile on any roads. You don't want any rock chips before the detailer gets it. Have it trailered to the detailer and have a full decon and paint correction performed.

Get the front end wrapped in PPF, and then the entire car coated in a high-quality product like Modesta or Opticoat.

The coating will be more resistant to swirls than the paint, and you won't need to wax or buff. But you must take care of the coating because mistreatment can damage it and fixing a damaged coating is not easy.

For regular cleaning just hand wash only, using a pressure washer and 2 bucket method. Never towel dry. Get a forced-air blow dryer for the car. They dry completely with no water spots. Towels just cause swirls. And NEVER use an automatic wash.
