What's a good monthly payment for an M5 lease?

Hi - I'm trying to swap my 2018 M3 for a 2020 M5, and the payment is coming in around $1,400 with 3k down (10k miles, 3 years), starting MSRP $114,000 and they said they took 14K off already.

Is bmw really not going to lower their money factor or residual right now? Why wouldn't then adjust based on current climate?

Because most people who are able to afford $115k cars aren't worried about $100-200 month and BMW knows that.

There are a few things you need to know to really evaluate a good lease.

1. What percent discount off MSRP are you getting. 12-13% is a good deal. Above 13% is an amazing deal.
2. What is the money factor and how much is it jacked up from buy rate. Try to get this as low as you can.
3. What's residual value? It was 60% late last year on 2019 models.

You can only negotiate 1 and 2 really so those are the numbers you want to focus on in that order. If you can get those as low as possible then monthly doesn't matter. It's the overall cost of lease that matters.

With that being said, for an amazing deal you can get payments to 1100-1200 per month with ZERO down.

I think $1200 a month now is very doable, please shop around. That being said, in the age of COVID there could be more financial woes ahead in 2020 and beyond so if I were leasing a car today I would also factor in these considerations:

1. What if my company goes under and I have no income coming in, will this lease that I am now agreeing to put me in a financial bind?

2. What if I have a health issue and can't work for months at a time, how will that affect my financial situation?

Hi there, I believe the number currently for lease on the M5s are still not attractive. Partially due to BMW USA. I just saw that the base money factor (AKA interest rate/ rent charge) has lowered to around the Dec 2019 level (some places at 0.00118, varies by zipcodes, very close to the 0.00128 in Dec)

HOWEVER that being said, the residual rate is still lower than Dec (15,000/ 12,000/ 10,000 miles) at (55%, 57%, 58%) while when I leased in Dec my 10/36 was 60% residual. Also there are no incentives now, such as lease credits. (Dec there were 4500 loyalty credits on the M5s)

compare to last month, BMW has already make the numbers more appealing, but still not as aggressive as year end in 2019.

Dealership discounts is always something you gotta look around, some won't budge a cent, while I've also deal with some dealers discounting their entire M fleet 15% off.. It's hit and miss!

Furthermore, under the current situation although the cars are not selling, the factories aren't really pumping out cars either! I've had friends who's car was about to enter production and changed to "no confirmed production date yet." So at the current stage dealers are still looking to see what happens next. But do expect huge discounts to used/ lease returns in the near future! (as contracts date don't really have a stop time like shutting down dealers and factories...)

My advice would be, search far and wide! reach out to all the potential candidates on autotrader, cars.com etc... and put the shipping into part of the negotiation.

What are good payments?
- Generally speaking with minimum down (such as some doc fee, first month, or no down even!) and the monthly lease including the local tax around 1% of the car's MSRP will be consider great deal!

When dealing with dealerships...
- Don't get sweet talk into how much they've discounted the car. What matters the most is actually the money factor/ interest rate I mentioned above. BMW give dealerships the base rate @0.00118/ 2.83%. And it's up to the dealerships to add on top for their profit! So sometimes you could even run into situations where dealer A discounted 15k, and the payment is still higher than dealer B who only discounted 7k but is not jacking up the money factor.

!! Sales don't usually get into sharing the money factor! But you can ask them to provide it to you and negotiate with them on that instead of just the money discount on the car! (but first, you gotta know your area's base money factor. I'd suggest go checkout Edmunds.com at the forums for the M5)

Good luck on your search to find your perfect M5that fits your budget!

Wow, that would be a sight to see. People like me who were the first to get the 2019 M5 Comp pay almost twice that. I have no regrets though, I was able to do European Delivery of my F90 M5 and I have memories for a lifetime.

Early adopters always get the first joy so it is better to close their eyes when this happens. LCI + COVID is just a very tough situation for BMW with so many M5s sitting on the lots. My SA said it could be a similar situation to the M3/M4 CS debacle soon. I am debating my thoughts on getting into one or going used sports car.

There are 335 on Autotrader now, at this time last year there were over 600, and with no shipments arriving lately they should be able to move most of these by September with some incentives

wow that's a terrible deal.

I picked up a 2020 M5C, 124k sticker (or 128 I dont remember I'll check back and update). They took my wifes 530e which had about 10 months left, no money down, and after what I believe is them taking a hit on the lease payoff my drive off cost came to $7400 with tax, title, fees, 1st month, and I'm paying $1399 per month.

No, I'm going to have someone take over my lease, so no trade in. I never believe the con of "14k off" or "we are losing money"

I had a $990 payment for my M4. First black one in San Diego, and then two years later people got $670 payments, I was mad but it's the benefit of getting the car then.

Really wanted to ED and F90... my F80 euro pick up was just an obscenely good time (unless you ask my wife about the factory tour... our guide was a bit slow but that's a story for another time)

Cancelling the euro delivery program kills me though. So sad!
