M5 CS Delivered!! PAINT Issues

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey guys, I was hoping to see what y'all thought of my current situation. I took delivery of my CS and it immediately went for PPF. My shop noticed these few blemishes within the paint. the hood is the major issue....the shop believes there is a crack in the paint and is concerned the PPF will not adhere or may cause an air pocket..what options do I have?? will BMW address this, I DO not want want to have the hood resprayed but it maybe the only option

Looks like you're getting a new hood. My FBHGM car had a bit of a blemish on the back bumper, but the PPF covered it up and you can't see it.

What x622 said ^^

Def get BMW to right the situation -- brand new CS shouldn't have any blemishes/scratches on it.

These are very normal, but definitely bring it up to your dealer. They *should* make good, but ymmv

Very surprised that made it through QC at the vehicle distribution center @ BMW (prior to your dealer).

My M5 had issues in the paint as well. It's bound to happen although yours a bit more serious. I would as for a repaint at a min. But….good luck finding someone or trusting the dealer to paint it without flaws. Dealer damaged my hood when washing it without my permission and took 3 repaints before I finally gave up and just accepted it. Ended up buying a Rupes to polish it myself because they also couldn't polish without swirls.

In all honesty, it isn't too bad. But that crack would drive me crazy. But is also looks like it could be a hair as well...I've had a hair fly in paintjobs a few times. Lol. How that car passed QC is beyond me. I will say i did notice 1 or 2 dirt nibs inside the CS as well. Matte clear is very unforgiving.

Regardless of what it is, the repaint (if it comes to that) wont be terribly bad. It's unfortunate its on such a big panel though, which always makes it tough to hide a repair.

Sure, they're inevitable to a point as no process is ever going to be perfect 100% of the time, but that doesn't change the fact that BMW should make it right, especially on a limited edition CS.

honestly I wouldn't be to worried about the blemishes except for the fact that the hood can't be PPF due to the crack, the dealer has already arranged for the hood to be addressed and the solution now is a replacement...I just hope I can get a painted hood direct from factory

Maybe IND can assist on paint procedures etc. Their painted side markers are a dead match on FDG.

Are you planning on keeping the car long term? Then make them repaint the hood.

If not screw it, drive it as is. Let the next guy worry about it.

Repaint, don't see the hesitation. I'm sure they'll honor the request.

Agree that bmw should make it right..
It would bother me personally if I had spent a ton of money on a brand new car and expecting it to be perfect. I was making a comment on the $700k Ferrari with the blemish to point out that no matter what price point, that it happens. Also Ferrari is more superior when it comes to quality control.

I would have your dealer talk to your rep about bringing the car back to the VDC to get the hood redone. Hopefully you are not too far from the port.

VDCs are VERY good with frozen paint. Dare I say it, many members here probably have repainted panels and don't know it. Unfortunately this is just how it goes with cars, they can get freight damage in many different ways, or a bad paint job even.

The crack looks like a hair. I would just deal with the small imperfections unless they are going to give you a brand new factory painted hood. If they repaint it, it will be worse than it is now.

Applying Xpel stealth most likely will hide the imprefection really well. Ask them to do a test on it and see.

Do not get the hood painted. Just leave it like it is and put PPF over it. The color will never match and it will stand out and look bad. Hopefully the PPF will hide some of it. Complain to BMW about it and who knows maybe they can do the entire car over. But doing one panel you will regret it.

Do you know anything about frozen paint? Yes if bmw will pay for the entire car to be repainted this is the only way it will match. Since bmw won't do that he should NOT try to just paint the hood. IT WILL NOT MATCH.

OP ignore aj_g80.
