Anyone switch from Pirelli to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S?
I just picked up a 2019 M5 Comp and it came with the Pirelli tires. Has anyone changed out the Pirelli tires to the Michelin Pilot 4S? If so, is there a big difference in terms of road noise and ride quality with the Michelins having less road noise and better ride quality?

I made the switch to PS4S from the P Zeros and have been thoroughly impressed. They feel more solid, look better, and road noise seems better (somewhat hard to tell for sure since the P Zeros were worn in the rear).

The Pirellis suck; they have always sucked. I just replaced mine this week to the Michelins and feel a world of difference - quieter and rides better. I had the exact same experience in my F10 M5.

I've had them both on multiple cars and, IMO at least, the difference is more Internet chatter than reality. The Pirellis are good tires and I wouldn't change them out until they wear out unless you've just got money to burn.

I also concur. I've had both on the F90 and I would use the Pirelli's until they were done. The one thing I did notice is that the Pirellis seemed stickier with road debris. Like little rocks would stick and be thrown around. The Michelins don't seem to do that as much.

On this topic of switching tires, if done at the dealer, do they remove the residue of the old balance weights on the rim? Last few times I have switched my tires, they just rip them off but since the dealer is charging ~200 to mount, id hope they would.

Has anybody changed sizes on their rear tires, say moved to a 305? A little more width would look sweet. My rear P zero's need to be replaced. Once all 4 wear out, will move to Michelin P4S4's

I switched to Michelin PS4's last week. Ran Pirelli's until 10k miles and the rears were shot at least for wet. Very poor traction. I didn't dislike to Pirellis but like PS4's much more and have run them on all my prior M cars

I think the stock rears are 10.5" which is commonplace for mounting 295s from the factory. Or are they 10"s; ugh, I can't remember. Last edited by limeypride; 12-15-2019 at 08:43 PM.. |

i think they are 9.5 and 10.5 stock. yep im curious how the tire shoulders sit. square, not bulging out. so sidewall angle in relation to the edge of the wheel.

For those of you like myself where the rears are worn, but the fronts still have some life left, are you going ahead and replacing all 4, or just replacing the rears? I'm at 11k miles on stock Pirellis and the rears are at the wear bars. Fronts have life left, but not sure if they will make it until the rears wear out again. In my F10, it was two sets of rears for every one set of fronts.
This is a lease. 3yr/10k per. Just trying to figure out tire management. Do the PS4's wear better? |
