I don't understand at all. I launch from traffic lights when possible to the first shift and it works every single time.
It was a waste of time trying without LC since you'll easily lose a half second from the absence of quick shift 3 (ZF mode used during launches)—so that was futile. This is not representative of either my 2019's launch behavior nor my 2020. On a drag strip, it's also traditional to switch lanes to eliminate differences in road surface. Beyond that or the driver's inexperience with the car, I'm lost. : |

Not sure if that that guy knew how to launch the car properly.

That said and to lay the disclaimer: I don't think this works on 19s but here's how just in case: 1. Engine Sport+ 2. Transmission S3 (manual mode) 3. Traction control in MDM (NOT off completely and leave 4WD alone) 4. As with regular launch control: --> Left foot brake with enough pressure to hold the car on idle --> When ready to launch... -----> increase left foot pressure just like with LC -----> mash the gas to the floor -----> but now let the brake go immediately -----> shift the car MANUALLY when you see say 5500rpm The launch itself sounds complicated but it's the same as launch control with only two exceptions: 1. don't wait for RPMs and boost 2. shift yourself or you'll bounce off of the limiter In this mode, I can reliably and consistently nail 2.7s-2.8s 0-60mph times. It's faster to set it up than full LC and works better in sub-optimal traction conditions because you control the shifts. If you were totally SHITE at prehistoric video games like Defender or Phoenix, don't bother trying this 'cause timing is everything. |

The reason you don't know about the special shift mode is because you don't use launch control so you've yet to experience the difference. At the drag strip, LC is quite literally one of the differences between winning and losing--it is MONUMENTALLY faster than standard shifting (monumental, of course, being relative when we're talking about fractions of a second). |

Launch control in the M5 is a joke. Far too complicated, and far more gimmicky than useful. I had this bogging and switching to 2nd issue frequently. The trouble with the launch is that if you hold it for too long it just bogs miserably. It takes too much time to setup too, and if you are not with your foot 100% in (touching the kick down) it just does not shift automatically
