This is definitely a big step forward.
AFAIK most everything in the Taycan is touch controls. Not a big fan of that: looks nice, but a PITA to use.

YOU CAN'T CALL IT A TURBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

arghhh.

Different topic but similar concept, when the 911 becomes a BEV, will they put the electric motors out the back?

I guess the name was always there to separate the strong from the week.
They decided to use the same name which most off us don't agree.

Turbo S = can't touch this

Porsche can call non ICE cars turbos just like Mercedes can call the non 6.3 E63 and C63 by their recognized name. These are brands now - and don't even need to represent anything - just like the Turbo and Turbo S badges.

In principle, yes. In practice, naaaa--a number is a number and can be applied to anything... but a noun has limited definitions. They're not the same. Porsche, however, have demonstrated their complete disregard for this by producing over 911 versions of what appears to be the same f#cking car... with the same f#cking numeric designation... but at least a modicum of consistency to the "Turbo" models... oh, no, they blew (pun intended) that, too. Those Germans are clever aren't they!

That said, I'm obviously joking above but I also find the model designation a bit jarring to be honest.

Don't like the looks of the Taycan at all. Ugly headlights/taillights.

Garage List
Am on the list but with few allocations to local dealers this will be a long wait.
Lots to like though... The quality will be day/night with a Tesla.

That said, I spec'd the car at $217k. Not sure that I want to take a dive into first gen. EV at that price point.

Wow this is terrible, no wonder Porsche is touting the performance of the car because the user interface is.....look for yourself. Hope Porsche sort it out.

I rather Tesla spent time improving auto pilot instead of getting in a ring time race with Porsche.

If you read the ring time run on Road and Track you find out that Tesla was running their TRIPLE - not yet in production electric motor system (one for each rear wheel and one for the fronts), the car tested was gutted to the metal to save massive weight, and the car had different rubber compound/and width to the stock setup. I would say weight reduction alone is good for 20 seconds - forget the same prototype engine that was in the "8 second" Roadster.

Porsche did tremendously well considering.

Yeah I know it's only a prototype. What will separate EVs in the future is the software, not ring time. Tesla's advantage is their head start in the software and that's the area they should try to have a lead on instead of battling ring time with Porsche.

Few people buy family sedans because of ring time, but I guess it's good for Tesla publicity.

Plus 1. Elon is going down in flames. Manufacturers across the globe are now in the game. Tesla lost money for 10 years without competition. Once the “Singularity Cool Factor” disappears, it’s fork time.

I don't know, I wouldn't underestimate a crazy person. And based on Porsche's performance number, UI and price premium, I don't think the traditional ICE companies has as big of advantage as some people think when it comes to make EV cars.

I think you are both right. Tesla is the leader in electric car technology that much is clear.

That said - Porsche's racing experience is second to none. That has helped them despite their late entry into this game. Performance wise - on a road course - I think in time, they will be hard to beat.

What is great for everyone is this type of competition benefits the consumer - us - and this will cause an excellent performance war that we can all enjoy!

Which is why I don't think Tesla should be getting in ring time race with anyone, why play to someone else's strength. But I guess that's what a crazy CEO does right?

I got my ass handed to me yesterday by a Turbo S. It was a stoplight race and he beat me by a good 2-3 car length. I need a real tune fast, my car is mainly stock with a racechip. I didn't use LC I just mashed the paddle once it turned green. I bet some of these JB4 guys on here would've given it a run for its money. The guy was on a test drive with his salesperson. I wanted to pull the window down and tell the salesperson he owes me 1/2 his commission because I just sold a 200K+ car for you
