They have done this to drive subscriptions (opposite video to CarWow = more attention and link shares). Look at the other vids on their channel f10 M5 beats AMG GTS....

Secondly, Car and Driver and Road and Track are the SAME publication house so their results won't vary (BMW prob gave them the same tuned press car). There are just as many reviews around the world e.g. Evo Magazine, Top Gear, Chris Harris that point towards E63s. Media these days is a shambles of promoted/hyped content.

Its a bit weird how Top Gear UK pulled the M5 vs. E63s comparison from the most recent season even though it was in their trailer. Let me guess M5 didn't do well enough.

Couldn’t Watch

I wanted to but just could not go through with watching this video; why? Becuase I would most certainly been part of the back and forth discussion about why this or that should have one.

I love my new car but in reality deep inside and after the car wow video I can’t help but feel BMW could have put in a little more oomph to settle the score definitely.

I really can’t be bothered to wait for the CP, CS or whatever edition (which the others will probably match) and which will probably make the ride unbearable in this 4 door to get what used to set the original cars apart from the AMGs.

This probably the last M5 V8 before downsizing or hybridization so I am going to enjoy it while it lasts.

BMW haven't quoted an official time yet, and MB never quote them at all.

However, Sport Auto has tested the wagon version of the E63S and it ran 7:45.

Waiting for SA's test on the M5, but it won't be the next issue.

i saw an article that bmw will not publish time, because the new jag sedan project 8 (limited edition) got some 7:21 lap time ...

Lol, ok that makes sense. No need to quote unless the M5 can beat that time.

F10 M5 vs AMG GTS - M5 destroys the GTS
F90 vs E63s - M5 wins

Soon they will drag the m8 vs chiron....
We just know how to launch really well. Half the journo's suck at launching bmw. That said the RS5 was ahead on the launch when it went up against the M4CP. Also the M4CS lost to the 911 GTS.

So no we are not a bunch of BMW fan boys. Bmw claim 4.0 on 0 - 100kp/h we do a our best to get close to that

I agree it is sad the M car discussions are so focused on drag racing. Motorsport used to stand for so much more. Just buy a Tesla and call it a day.

...the RS5 won against the M4 CP, a race done by exactly the same people who did the E63S vs F90 M5

No, I am saying that those that go "look a million magazines say the M5 is better" are not correct. Only 2 official publications say it is and 3 other say the E63s is better. I am not even going to question whether anyone will ever be able to replicate the Hearst results with their press car (so far no other publication even comes close). This M5 for BMW is way more about marketing then ever before, hence all the stupid drift records, limited edition launch cars, lap records in japan etc. Technically and aesthetically, the car is not a huge leap from the previous car, but with marketing you can always beef it up.

Please be aware that the way car reviews work is exactly like all media, just because the front page is different doesn't mean the content is any different.

That's what it appears to be, to me. However, I also noticed that in the CarWow video (post # 58) at ~1:05, from the Merc view, it appears that the M5 short shifts and bogs down. We'll never know...

I’m not in the market for any of these two cars. I appreciate that both automakers produce cars that I would love to own (the AMG GTS or GTR are to die for).

But the interior design of the E class and all it’s derivatives present to my eyes a huge problem. From the dashboard back everything is premium, harmonious in design language, beautiful in material choice, I say a triumph of interior design. Then they went ahead and glued two rectangular flat screens together and stuck them behind the wheel in such a jarring manner that I simply cringe when I see it. A real shame.

I truly prefer the 5 series interior simply because ALL of it is cohesive. And it will probably age better. But Audi still does it better most of the time.

I won’t comment on the supremely tacky blue ambiance lighting present in both cars.

Bmw let the public bully them into only caring about 0-60 times. Let's look back and see what our favorite m cars were... the least important thing to us was 0-60. The M3 didn't become the benchmark because it was fast in a straight line. Sure, it was quick but not faster than everything else. Now the newer M cars are so damn boring and they still aren't even the fastest in a straight line. I've lost a lot of interest in owning another bmw after my current one. If I can hop into an E92 m3 I will, otherwise I'm going Porsche where they still care about driver engagement.

No the M5 interior is weak and the design and geometry look like a 3 series. The screen and over all concept follow the same design. Also why would I need make myself feel better? I had multiple opportunities to pick up an M5(and still could as they are not flying off showroom floors). I just find the car and interior very weak with nothing that screams special to me. When your master BMW tech of 12 years (and bmw fanboy) messages you pictures of the car and how it looks a boring and feels like the inside of a 3 series and to get the AMG. That is saying something. After driving both he is 100% correct. Plus the performance of both is pretty much on the same level. Although the Mercedes 9 speed transmission with clutch plates vs BMWs zf 8 with a torque converter(the same auto in all other BMWs) I find the Mercedes to shift and downshift a lot smoother.

This doesn't look like 100k cars interior to me.

It's all about personal preference.

No wrong answers.

I almost bought a 911TurboS before I saw the M5 interior. To me, the M5 won hands down. Many would prefer the 911. Buy what you love.

Same thing's happening over at Mercedes. IMO, there's a big difference in interior between 3 series and the M5.
