He notes that it's happening in both runs, but never really explains it or corrects for it. |

The relevance of this kind of test is a total mistery to me. When will you find an AMG E63s next to you on an unrestricted (no radar) free road in front of you. Exactly...never! Suppose just for fun, you have it next to you... will you launch control it to just be a few centimeters ahead of it at +100mph? I wouldn't. I would give it a thumbs up for his machine, and he will probably generously return it.
reducing an M5 or a an E63s to a simple drag race is near blasphemy. It's all about the experience of owning such a splendid beast that you can control for the commute home to work and for the occassional shopping. It's the cruiser for the weekend and the longer vacation trips to the ski resorts. It's more about containing the beast in all day traffic and totally NOT about drag racing on the strip. It's a sad day when the focus of an M car is in a drag race. Next thing you will tell me is that muscle cars lay down faster lap times...

I wonder if the E 63 wagon would've done any better? Doesn't it have more horsepower?

Can I post the excuses when a car loses a pointless race? For all cars okay?
- Driver's too fat! - Road conditions aren't perfect. - Driver doesn't know how to use launch control! - Tire pressure is off! - Magazine bias! - Driver's suck! I know best! If I missed any let me know, I'll add it to the list.

The thing is - these cars are huge now. Heavy. From what I have read - the BMW M5 is the sportier car to drive. I believe this for two main reasons; I've owned the last E63S - and it was a straight line missile - but it was not meant for track. IN fact I found my M550ix much more sporty in regards to driving dynamics. Mercedes are tanks - bullet proof and swath you in luxury. They are also quick and fast. That said - the F90 M5 even being better than the new E63S - is never going to be a track (road course) car. None of the 5 series competitors are (Audi, MB, Cadillac, Panamera). I will go further and state the only car size and type from BMW at least that I have heard from actual owners - that is getting close to the days of yore is the M2. So comparing drag times - and some road course sprints - is what we are getting today. Finally - another reason why I personally believe the majority of tests - is simple: BMW had the E63S to benchmark against. Just as my earlier E63S had the existing F10 M5's to benchmark against. They were not coming out after the new E63S and letting the F90 be slower. |

It was also found that for whatever reason the F90 in this test did not have the Michelin PS4's as it did in the first test. I do believe the new E63S is superior in the roll. But as per all of the other tests - including Carwows first - the F90 M5 will be first to 60 and the 1/4 mile 9/10 times. The cars are close - no doubt - but the F90 M5 has the edge. |

That said - I personally turned down the new E class interiors - which in pictures looked out of this world - when I actually got into one - specifically because it did look like the interior of a spaceship (I wrote here it was very Enterprise D). It just wasn't for me. I actually preferred my older E63S interior. What is important is to try all the cars out and make your choice. I have found I am a BMW guy - simply because of how the cars drives more than anything else. The MB was nice - but the BMW just fit for my tastes. |
