This evening with cooler temps it was fine. I don't know if it is heat related being in TX as it was 100+ again today.

I see this happening when I'm filling up the car while the engine is running... otherwise I don't notice it.

So had it happen again. Rough idle side by side sway and engine light came on. The screen shot is from obd2 fusion app but it can't clear the engine light. Pic is from an actual reader and it clears the light fine. What y'all think this could be? I'm thinking fuel related as there is no loss of power when driving it's just idle. O2 sensor readings are fine there is no smell of any sort. Possible lpfp?

Tuner thinks it's the spark plugs. So let's see. Car will be at BMW Wednesday let's see. Advisor stated spark plugs every 3rd oil change which about 1500 miles away.

Based on Eurocharged they said if it was fuel pump u would have fuel pump codes. My codes are random cylinders misfiring so there idea is that it must be spark plugs as it's almost time to change them. I think it's both as I have the dreaded rough start at times as well. I'm going to revert it to stock file tomorrow fill up 93 and drive it a little before taking it in. Cars overall runs strong no issue.

Car was at dealer they changed coils and plugs. No issues for couple of days but again today temps above 102 and it happened again. Don't know how it is heat related? What can cause this?

Tune is great. Best times have been

1/4 10.43,
0-60 2.75,
0-130 9.91,
60-130 7.08

DA 3450
81F
850ft

E30 mix

It will get better I'm sure with better temps n DA. Which might be long ways being in central Texas.

Nope no tcu tune. Issue is Eurocharged austin doesn't have tcu tune. I can do evolve or some other tuner but I don't want to flash the ecu via OBD port. Right now my flash counter is stock as they do tune via ecu direct.

Connect OBD2 scanner and it said something to do with power train and emissions. Cleared the code n light went away. No codes for almost 50 miles but rocking is still there.

Any idea what it could be? I was suspecting lpfp as I do have rough start sometime and car shutting off but donno of it could be related on not. Also car drives fine no loss of power or anything.

Did you get to the bottom of this?
No bud. I switched tune to evolve stage 2 with e45 and tcu tune. When it's hot it still sometimes has lumpy idle and sputtering start issue. LPFP has to be the culprit but until no codes or bmw can replicate it there is not much that can be done. I have 0 codes so just sit and wait game plus my e85 is as high as e47 so that might contribute along with 2 step colder plugs. Since the tune swap no misfires or check engine light.

From what Ive noticed it mainly happens few minutes after the car had been started and had not been operated for several hours.

I mainly drive the car in M1 model, engine SS rest on comfort. When it happens, I feel the car rocking a bit side to side, like it has a cam lol, very faint of course, not like my Nissan motor with tomei 260 cams.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?
I know that this is an old post but I want to say that all M5 F90 do this. It’s totally normal and is just the computers figuring out how much fuel to put into the engine.

Do you let the car go through the warmup routine? On cold start it idles high then settles down in RPMs. Do you put it in gear/drive away before the RPMs settle to normal/low idle?

I just drive it as that is what my SA advised me to do.

I've always let it warm up and settle in revs before driving it. Takes a minute or two at most. I've read that this ensures oil is properly circulated, prevents bore scoring etc.
