My First Bimmer — M2
Like in the previous post, my first BMW is the one I purchased in early 2022: a new-to-me 2018 F87 M2 LCI.
I don't consider myself a BMW guy. I'm a small-sports-car with shift-em-yourself gears kinda guy. I came from a 2010 5MT WRX hatchback. Round about when I hit 10 years of ownership of the WRX, I started looking for my next small hatchback or coupé, AWD/RWD, manual transmission car. I was looking at cars like the Golf R, Veloster N, Mini Cooper S/JCW, and similar. That's when I happened upon the Throttle House review of the M240i. Since I'm not a BMW guy, I hadn't really heard of the car. I fell in love instantly. As I learned more about the M240i, I discovered the M2. I'd found my true love. So I spent the next two years watching the the used market for my perfect spec to pop up: LCI (non-comp), LBB, moonroof, 6MT, one-owner, CA-owned, exec package, under 30K miles, $55K or less. In December '21 the exact spec I was looking for popped up at a CarMax in SoCal. I jumped on it, had it transferred to my local CarMax the day after it appeared online, spent 24 hours with it during CarMax's 24-hour test drive, and purchased it the next day. That was just over a year ago. A year later, my love affair with M2 hasn't ceased. I think I'll get at least a decade out of this car. And, with how the car market is rapidly shifting under us, who knows: maybe I'll go 15 years in this one. It's the last of the good ones, I think. |

Custom build 2007, E92 335 back in early 2007. What, a, car!
Then BMW bought it back for faulty waste gates.

Can’t recall if I posted here but I bought my first Bimmer 15 years ago. At the time I told myself I wouldn’t mod it

My father owned a small used car dealership for like 35 years. I grew up on it and later worked at through high school and college.
One morning on the way to the lot he told me that he parked all the cars I could choose from on the front row as my first car. It was about 5-6 cars. It was pretty fun and exciting thinking about as I drove in to town with him. He told me years later that he had put a ton of money into an old K5 blazer that he thought for sure I’d want. My best friend had one at the time. He detailed it, did all the maintenance and put new tires on it. It was white and was a looker. When I looked in the car it had solid blue interior, as mid 80s commonly did. I just don’t like it. Right next to it was a 1984 BMW 318i, black with tan interior. It had 154,000 miles back then, which was ALOT. The car was a dump compared to the other line up. It cost $2,400 IIIRC, and my dad was going to sell it for $5,000. This was back in the mid 90s. I loved that car after watching the e30s race in IMSA on tv. I thought this was my chance to have that. The car has 100hp I believe and couldn’t hit 90mph downhill with a tailwind. Looking back perfect for a race dreaming teenager. After I got my 318i, my friend got rid of his K5, and then got a late 80s 325i convertible that I was super jealous of. Haha. |

Which one is your favorite? Looks alone, I’d take the ‘18 F80. Love that color combo. What is it? Tanzanite with tartufo?

My first was 2019 model, this was great and I really loved it. However, there were some issues with that piece and so I sold it and bought a mountain bike to visit the hearts of hilla. Now I'm looking to buy another.

My first BIMMER is a 2010 335i with that twin turbo i6 that will, err has enormous potential. Time will tell lol. |
