Roof rail covers popping up?

Strange phenomenon...

I have the moonroof, not CF roof.

Randomly, I’ll get out of the car and all or two on the same side of the roof rail covers are popped up. It’s happened four or five time in the past week.

Looks almost like they’re stopping flaps or lateral stabilizers!😜

I’ve tried to open them all, and they seem very tightly spring loaded to open or snap shut. Can’t believe it’s the wind.

I can only speculate that under hard acceleration or cornering, the roof flexes and they release.

Has this happened to anyone else?

That is odd, I have opened them on my M2 to put on a roof rack, but have not flipped them open on the M5. The snap closed pretty tightly. Probably a bad part? Do they open easier on the affected side compared to the unaffected side?

All four open sometimes.

There is no rhyme or reason to it.

They still snap shut and open pretty stiffly, almost like they’re spring loaded.

Very strange

You'll have to put a gopro on the roof looking at the flaps and then drive until they pop up and find the "max speed before pop up." And then the "max speed before the gopro flies off."

I had that on mine. Both roof rail covers lifted about 4-5 inches at the rear of the car. They are held down with Betalink (I think) adhesive. Apparently not enough adhesive was used. Dealer fixed mine when in for break-in service.

Not sure if we’re talking about the same thing.
Mine are spring loaded it seems. The cover for where the roof rail would attach.

This happened on my F10 M5 & I used Sugru Glue putty - worked perfectly and they can still be opened when you need to fit a roof-rack.
