Next-Gen M5

With the announcement of the M5CS and its one year model run, I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of when the next-gen M5 might be announced/released?

My X5 lease ends May 2022 and I'm wondering if the next gen M5 should realistically be on my radar for an upgrade.

LCI typically runs 3 years. 2021 is the first year of LCI.

I think I saw the next gen M5

I think I spotted the next gen M5.

If Washington has their way, my next M5 will be parked next to an EV charger just like this photo.

This is my new car... I shared the photo with my father and he asked if it was a hybrid or something.

Good to know. Apologies I'm newer to the brand so not super up-to-date on LCI update years. Looks like I'll get the current version. Thanks!

Yeah, according to https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=901686, the G30 5-series will end production on 6/23, so the next gen 5 series will start production shortly after that.

M cars usually start production a year after the start of their series production cars (so 3/24 to 7/24), so I'd say we will see a launch of a new M5 in early 2024.

I asked the same question myself before ordering my '21 M5. Based on the release of the 5 series in the past, we should be due for a generation change in 2023 (with announcement in late fall 2022). The current G30 was announced in 2016 as a 2017 model year.

However with the design direction BMW is taking (not talking about the big grills), I'm a bit skeptical about how the next gen 5 will look like. Seems like all updated new models X5, X7, 3, 4 and 8 series all have the same interior, notably the AC controls embedded between the 2 central vents and the same digital cluster. It's not a bad design, but they start to look too much alike especially if I were to get an 8 series only to have the interior look so much like a 3 series. Not to take anything away from the 3 series, but I like a bit more distinction to have each series have its unique character especially the interior. The only thing the current M5 shares is the digital instrument cluster which IMHO makes the pre LCI gauge look that much more unique.

It is black. The yellowish lights make it look strange.
The dealership doesn't have an i8 to put in that spot, so they put an M5C there. Guess they will have to find another car.

Next M5 will probably be a hybrid.

I hope they blend the infotainment display better in the next one, like Porsche. It looks aesthetically jarring right now.

I totally agree. I thought I was the only one as I rarely read any complaints about the infotainment screen on the F90. That's one thing I still love about my F10. The nav screen is embedded in the dash and flows well. That said, I ordered a '21 M5 but that's my only complaint is that massive screen that sticks out like a sore thumb. Audi started that iPad/tablet screen a few years back and not sure why BMW jumped on the bandwagon on that design. Now Audi is going back to the embedded screen like the Porsche. Hoping BMW will too looking at the new 3 and 8 series' screens being more in line with the dash.

The worst thing about the huge screen sticking out of the dash is that it creaks endlessly. How did they not notice this?

The creaks don't end there my friend. Try pressing on your trim pieces, center dash, and the front cabin lights up top.

I think for this reason I may just hold onto the f90, hard to say but not a fan of hybrids. I wonder which will give better performance with a tune seeing as the battery will make it heavier than the current f90.

A hybrid would be faster for sure than current gen but probably at the cost of higher weight and complexity.
Batteries are going to degrade over time and will lower the performance and eventually would have to be replaced at a high cost.

I have no source to back this up, but I heard that it had something to do with the height of the screen related to the driver's line of sight and the only way to get it higher was to make it stick out and up.
