Hesitation, stumbling from a start, manual 330i
So i posted into an older thread on what i thought was a similar problem, but maybe it isnt.
Heres the problem: Was the "hesitation" issue ever resolved on the 330i manual? Ive had this happed a couple times a day. Its ONLY at the start, and it doesnt matter if I give it a lot or a little throttle. It feels like a slipping clutch almost. Stumbling and hesitation describe it well. I thought it was a glazed clutch, because it will stumble on the 1-2 shift as well, then 2-3, 4-5 etc are fine. BUT if its not stumbling from the start, a strong or low throttle 1-2 shift will result in snappy engagement with no hesitation/slip. Also, this will be very hard to show the dealer, because in one day of 30 miles of city driving, itll happen maybe 5-6 times. usually twice in a row..then no prob. And its not the higher rpm hesitation that others wrote about. Ive searched and searched but no resolution seems to be posted. Also, someone thought the DSC was kicking in in my case, i ruled out DSC.DTC kicking in, becuase even if I try to EASILY roll from a stop, it will hesitate.bog.etc. I have to hold the clutch and feather it with the throttle to keep it alive through 1st. and once again 2nd. After that, no problem. I am 100% sure this is NOT normal behavior or some user error. Firmware fix? Anyone else? |

the hesitation was an issue with the 325, not the 330... I thought. I've got a 6-mt 330 and haven't had this issue. Have you had the dealer take a look at your transmission or fuel valves? My wife's X5 was doing this and it was due to a stuck exhaust valve...

Is your X5 a manual as well? There was a lot of posts on the 5 series and 325 autos having this problem, but i dont know how that was resolved as well...if it was at all.
I will have the dealer check it out on wed, but like i said, it will be one of those..."could not replicate" revolving door issues.. Last edited by s4iscool; 12-09-2006 at 01:12 AM.. |

Sorry, my 330 MT runs fine. I had a slight hesitation when I first got it, but it went away as the miles increased.

No problems with my MT, either. Whatever it is it sounds like it isn't a problem affecting masses of 330i 6MTs.
When I first read your post I figured it was the traction control but since you said it happens on slow starts I guess that rules it out. Have you tried turning off the traction control and then turning it back on - to reset it. Just a thought but maybe it has an error in it and resetting it might fix the issue. If that doesn't work I'd bring it in for service. |

Hey! I also have this exact problem on my 330 MT. Your post described the symptoms VERY well. It seems to have gotten a "little" better as the mileage increased but it's still there.
What's the production date of your ride? and how many miles is it at currently? Mine is a July 06 production and currently at 1900 miles. Perhaps it's not completely broken in yet? Please let me know what the dealer says when you take it in. Thanks.

Hey thanks for speaking up. Ive read through a lot of posts on this forum and some people here and there pop up and mention similar symptoms. Mine is a early build and probably sat on the lot a while. I have 10k+ miles, so its not something that is going away. I do tons of highway miles, so its been masked a bit for me, but with all the stop and go ive done lately, im convinced its not in my mind and it is not an operator issue either. Ill post again.

I cant imagine BMW putting in a part knowing that it causes the types of stumbles Im having. I have looked at that post, and plan to do the mod if te dealer has no solution, but if it was the CDV, I would think that the stumbling would happy every time i started and stopped. There seems to be no pattern or condition to this stuttering on my car. POst up if you see any improvement.
