I think it depends on the brakes. Ceramics may have bigger platters and need more caliper clearance. Tire rack should know specs. Check out their site.

The base M5 and M5 Competition will both take the same wheels - that is to say any wheel that fits one will fit the other. The issue your facing from the "other places" is that not all 19" wheels will fit the M5 due to the size of the brakes, so they are incorrectly telling you that you need 20" wheels. Any OEM 19" wheel can be configured for a winter wheel set on either the base or Competition model. There are also certain aftermarket 19" wheel that will fit the M5 but unless the manufacturer markets them as fitting the M5 you really need to test fit them first before buying.

That's not entirely true. There's only one 19" OEM wheel that will fit the M5 and that's the style 705M wheel.

Thanks for catching that. What I meant to say was any 19" OEM M5 wheel will work on both the base and Competition M5. There are two wheels, the standard 705 and the OEM M5 winter wheel (not sure of the code).

The 705M is the OEM M5 winter wheel, it just comes in a different color.

I haven’t found a 19 in winter tire or any 19 or 20 all season tire that meets the specs (load in particular). I would like to have AS on my car right now so I could take a drive across the country, from the warm temps at my home through the snow and cold in the upper Rockies. Not an option.

This is a picture taken from the pamphlet of my local BMW dealer. I live in Montreal. Prices are in Cdn dollars and a 15% tax needs to be added.
I did not go down that route although I wanted to fit 19's for the winter. I ordered a set of GTS wheels (510) that I have fitted with Michelin Alpin (265 40 R19). I will never drive with Sottozero's again… ever ! To my knowledge and following my research, Michel Alpin and Pirelli Sottozero are the only two winter tires available in that size. I had sent an email to GTS wheel prior to my order. They assured me that the wheels I have ordered do fit the M5 comp. GTS also manufactures the 505 wheel that does fit our vehicle as well. BTW, the size of the brakes of the M5 and M5 comp is the same. As far as Carbon Ceramic is concerned, I do not know. However, the CC brakes are available on the normal M5. So why would your dealer tell you that 19 inch wheels do not fit on the Comp; only on the normal M5 if it is only a matter of brakes ? |

Here are pics of the GTS wheels I was talking about. The 510's and the 505's.
Will post pics of my car once the tires are on… when winter comes… which could be next week in Montreal !!! |

On your rear tires, I assume those are directional? Look for an arrow that is pointing to the front of the car. On the front, it should say outside.... trying to confirm if tirerack messed up my order. |

Thanks... It must be the new norm or at least for the M5(20s) outside of the Scottzeros option vs AP4s
How are they? I've got a set and am going to mount next week. Get yours off Tirerack? The only reason I ask is the rears are Directional and the front is an Asymmetrical tire design. Last edited by DocWeatherington; 10-26-2019 at 06:19 PM.. |

Why doesn't tirerack show Michellins Alpin PA4 as winter tires for F90 Competition? Instead the only option listed is Pirelli's. But search by tire size shows Michellins. Not sure why!
