B58 - 118001 and 21A02D, car runs bad

Hi all,

Hoping for some help.

My m140i (b58) recently developed a CEL. The car runs lumpy especially when cold. Even when warmed up, it hesitates a lot when cruising or giving throttle.
Sometimes it even stalls and I have to restart the car.

I had an error code for one of the lambda sensors which I changed but the issue is still there.

I am left with the error codes in the picture. I googled these but couldn't really find anything specific. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas on where to start with this?

Thank you 👍

The 21A02D is software “glitch” that can only be fixed via an ISTA update. I got mine done for $500-600 at a dealer. They locked my DME afterwards.

Yes - upgrading the software is the first step.

Another possible root cause: intake vanos solenoid actuator needs to be examined and replaced.

Taking it to the dealer was my last ditch effort. I replaced both vanos solenoids with the hope it would fix the issue. It didn't, the exhaust side was a pita to remove and install. The intake side was cake.

Sorry for the late reply. Been trying to chase the issue.
Car has a map and downpipes but was done before I purchased.

I will be changing the vanos actuators shortly but I'm not so sure it's connected. Would that really result in fuel too lean?

I am considering the software update however not keen on it wiping my map and possibly locking the dme...
