Timeline of a July build M4 Convertible

Now that I'm most of the way through the process, I wanted to share the timeline of my build to give others a data point as to what the steps in the process are and how quickly this particular order moved through them.

I was waiting to order a 2016 since April and based on a verbal agreement with my CA had the first spot in line for a 2016 F83 allocation at their dealership. Sometime around May 12 we read on the boards that the "order bank was open for MY16". He put in a mostly bogus order to hold my place in line. At that point the status was 047. Many options were missing prices or had ludicrous values like $9.9 billion for the base price (the actual prices for MY16 were not yet loaded). Around end of May the ordering guide came out.

On June 3 the very first allocations for MY16 came through and my order, being first in the dealership's order bank, got their first allocation. At that point I received my production number and build week (week 30, July 20-26) and the screen shot showed status 111. The CA took my deposit at this point (he didn't want to take it before as there was no allocation yet).

I didn't get any further screen shots from my CA, but started calling the automated 800 number almost daily and got some phone/email updates from my CA as well. Below is the timeline of the progress showing the paraphrased message from the 800 number in italics and the first day that it reported that status.

• June: Scheduled for production with no confirmed production date
• 7/3 (Fri): Scheduled for production estimated completion date July 22
• 7/18 (Sat): Scheduled for production estimated completion date July 23
• 7/20 (Mon): Body Shop
• 7/22 (Wed): Paint Shop (phone call with CA on the same day confirmed paint shop status, so the 800 number was no more than 24 hours behind my CA's info)
• 7/23 (Thu): Assembly
• 7/24 (Fri): Waiting to be released to carrier Production is done!
• 7/25 (Sat): Being transported to the port of exit
• 7/30 (Thu): At the port awaiting a vessel with no further shipping info
• 8/1 (Sat): In transit (emailed my CA and he responded immediately with the name of the ship, Cepheus Leader)
• Obsessively tracked the vessel through MarineTraffic and on this thread
• 8/28 (Fri): according to MarineTraffic the vessel arrived at Port Hueneme, 800 number still reports "in transit"
• 8/29 (Sat): at port awaiting vessel (according to my CA it's waiting to be trucked from Port Hueneme to the dealership in the Bay Area with an estimated ship date of 9/2)
• 9/1 (Tue): Arrived at the dealership in the Bay Area, about 5am
• 9/2 (Wed): Picked up!

On the topic of "Individual": my paint is Tanzanite Blue which is an Individual paint color. However it's a standard option from the ordering guide. This was not an Individual order that had to be approved by the BMW Individual department (all other options were normal). To my knowledge there was no additional delay caused by ordering Individual paint from the ordering guide.

Timeline about matches my car. Picked up around 7/3, dropped off and then back to my possession around 9/5. I'm in AZ, not Cali though, which prolly explains the difference.
