1,200mi break-in service, what is all involved?
I assume oil/filter change, rear diff fluid, and other checks?

Does that show 105 Quarts of oil? Is this break in service for a train or something?

I meant that a German car would use metric measurements and probably not list quantity in quarts on a service order! so it's probably not 10.5 quarts either

For what it’s worth when you run the ISTA oil measurement test plan it provides you the amount to add in liters.

Change oil and filter. Put in too much oil (hell it called for 11 so I used 11), over tighten filter hosing and drain plug, not change the ring on the drain plug.
Change oil in Rear Diff. Put the wrong oil in it. Use the oil for the diff on an X5. Not tell you. Never admit it. Change oil in front diff, put it in until it runs out the fill hole, not noting that it take 0.6 liters and not to over fill, and not tell you. Change the oil in the transfer case, not run the electric stuff to cycle the valves, over fill it and again never admit it. Turn off the Run In Service light. Go out and test drive it like they stole it. Call you and chastise you for missing the run in service mile mark by 100 miles and forget to report to BMW that the run in service was done. Did I miss anything? Oh of course. They reset all the electronics and wipe out your radio presets and other user defined items. And maybe loose your keys. Mike (I'm not jaded at all.)

Half Tongue in Cheek, other half my local dealer SUCKS.
My friends recent run in with them amplifies my opinion of their suction. Hi Suction for Sure. I DIY as much as I can. Currently wrestling with 'restrain system failure' which is intermittent and likely the sensor in the passenger seat. Another quality car component from the Ultimate Driving Machine company. I have fully functional ISTA on my laptop and plenty of tools. I did the items in the "run in service" myself. I changing the fluid in my transmission this spring along with the brake fluid. Life time Transmission fluid my ASS. Lifetime of your warranty maybe, but not the actual car. Mike

I wanna do the front diff, and have the instructions, but haven't done it yet (my CS is only one year old and doesn't really have all that many miles -yet). Shawn |

Rear diff same, drain and fill plug, takes more, I have to check the records on that one. Transfer case is the pain. Need access to ISTA or properly working scanner tool to open the valves. The mechanical part requires sucking the fluid out with a big ass syringe. Refill that until it overflows. You should support transmission before removing the bracket which holds the transfer case in place. I think you can actually get at the drain and fill hole without removing the bracket, but I did not try. Sorta an afterthought. Mike

Hah yeah. Still wouldn’t need 105 and there’s no period there so it’s not 10.5. When googling the part number I found someone else’s receipt and it showed 6.. so I’m guessing it normally requires 6 quarts (or liters). 😄
