As of June 1, 2023 minimum wage is $16.75 per hour WHETHER THEY GET A TIP OR NOT.
My buddy's 16 year old son just got a job at a local CC washing dishes for $18/hr. Service jobs aren't intended to be careers.

Give or take. It depends on which side of the bed Trudeau and Biden wake up on.

Question is, then, if a person serving you is making $18 an hour, and you tip them $20, plus other tables’ tips in the same hour, what are we doing?

And people think all is well. This explains why a Happy Meal now costs $16 when it used to cost $3.99. Minimum wage was never intended to be a living wage. It was a starting wage for an entry level job for kids to get into the work force. That said, not every state is like those on the left coast. Colorado still pays servers less than minimum wage + tips. Not sure what Florida is but I assume it is the same thing.

I am not an AH either... but i keep a common sense head on my neck...

I think paying a flat $15 wage for these jobs and offering benefits is the way to go (i.e. the one thing that in my mind CA got right w an added service charge of 5%)... but beyond that... 0 tips and it's just a regular job.

You can't expect me to pay high prices for subpar food, tip very high and get hit with all sorts of service fees... that means going out soon to a regular bar will be a $50 affair for just a beer and burger. This is an easy industry in my mind to revolutionize... just like Uber did with Taxis.

as a point of reference or so you don't think i am some hippy... i did not vote for the current admin... wouldn't have even dreamed of it

First off, people pay into social security and calling it a redistribution of wealth is a super simpleton way to think about it, using your terminology. You pay, you get a benefit based on what you paid into it. There are limits to how much you can get out of it, and it is pay-as-you-go, but the benefit is based on what you paid in.

Secondly, insurance is a risk sharing that people participate in willingly. Not sure how you could call that a redistribution of wealth.

Third, redistribution of wealth is not for the benefit of the middle class, so that point makes no sense.

Fourth, I never said anything about fair sharing of expenses based on ability to pay. Yes, those with more need to pay more for national defense (for example), as they have more to protect.

Man... that logic is so bad I don't even know where to start.

SS currently gets 3x the out for 1x the in. The fear is that SS will run out, so then how is it balanced? By the Govt supporting it with everyone's tax dollars... simple as that. If this system isn't even there in 30 years, everyone paying in now is getting shafted. It is exactly how any tax dollars are divided... whether its to bailout banks, give out PPP loans or anything... this is the definition of redistribution of wealth as opposed to going to say infrastructure or something we could all use now.

Insurance - if i pay into a system and my rates go up as a result of other's poor driving / habits... that is redistro of wealth... I am paying for others misfortunes and bad habits... in fact, it's also legal discrimination.

3rd - then what is? lol... any redistro of wealth to any class is redistro... unless again, you have some poor simpleton analogy of Robin Hood stealing from the rich to the poor lol... because I hope no one is thinking that.

4th - whether you said it or not... its happening.

Wow. I didn't realize you were so wildly ignorant. We'll have to stop here because we will never see things the same way and we are wading into politics.

Yeah, you Canadians pay way too damn much for everything. That's $90 here in Kansas City.

Exactly. Overly expensive crappy fast food has forced me to make better health and financial decisions. I now cook way more and if I'm going out, why would I eat a crappy burger, fried, and drink for $11 when I can go to Chipotle or similar and get way better food for maybe a $1 more or possibly less?

I don't understand how people can afford to eat out all the time now.

^This. $15+/hr minimum wage is not sustainable. These aren't careers.
