Basically, what most other ppl have said. I'm ordering the top / side view cameras, and skipping the rest of the drivers package. It'd be a novelty to have speed limit info, but no way I'm giving up my V1 radar detector.

As far as the driving assistant. It's passive for lane changes / blind spots, but I believe it's actually active at low speeds / city driving.

One reason I didn't get them is cost. Pretty stupid as my build is slightly over 73k but I have to eat 6-8k on my current lease. Just don't think I really needed it. Should have been in exec PAC IMO

I ordered the driver assistance plus package ... If it saves me from one traffic incident in NYC it will pay for itself, not just in terms of cost but also lost time while my M4 gets repaired. Also, I figure it will make the driving experience less stressful so that I can concentrate on enjoying the ride - can't put a price on that.

I've using for almost 3 years, will not order again ( the system will not intervene and I think that's necessary to really prevent an accident )

Do not rely 100% on it and always maintain your eyes on the street all time

Really dont like the dark circles in the front fenders for the side view cameras. Would probably get if I'm picking a dark exterior color, but leaning towards SO right now and don't like the blemishes on the fenders

In New Orleans, parking is a nightmare and people ignore the safe distance from corners. Frequently, you are pulling out onto a street that cars are jammed up to the corner. You can't see far at all and remember, we're all drunk here, so people don't react well to a car pulling out from a blind spot. So, the side view cameras are EXTRAORDINARILY USEFUL.

Curbs here are high as well to keep all the street flooding in the street. Top view cameras are essential for avoiding curb rash.

If there are any other states besides NJ that use K-band pop -- it seems the latest V1 let you turn off K-band POP only which eliminates the problems with the exception that you are more vulnerable in New Jersey.

I had an Evoque for a while with the same cameras - only turned them on when I was bored sitting somewhere in my car, just to play and see if they worked. Never once did I actually use them while driving. A bit of a waste if you ask me.

Backup camera was handy - But only cause it allowed me to be lazy, I wouldn't have ordered it except it is standard so I got used to it.

I've had the top-side cameras in my 335i and I hate them. Of zero value to me and they sometimes kick in instead of the rear-view camera, which is an essential. I'm steering clear of the Driver Assistant 2 on my next car just to get away from these not-useful toys. YMMV.

They also still use X-band. So, forget turning X-band off in NJ too.

One thing I wish they would add is the FLIR option. I know people have fit these on the E9x's, so it will probably be possible to retrofit on the F8x too. But, it would be an OEM option that I would get, if available.

Cheers.

Exact reason I didn't want them, but for city parking the top view camera seems worth it and unfortunately the side view is packaged with it. If I had it my way I'd keep the top view and rear, and skip the side view. That would solve our ugly black dot problem.

You can activate them by hitting the button any time under 30kmh (~20mph) and they automatically come on in reverse and the mirrors dip - that's in the X5 anyway.
Anyone have success coding these so they can be used at any speed?

Yes... It's a pretty common function to code. I have it done on my F30 but probably won't code it on the new F80. It's kinda useless and can be annoying when you back out of the garage and want to change the radio station...because you remove the speed limiter it doesn't shut off after driving off so it's just another button to hit in order to use drive and there is already enough buttons to push(m steering wheel buttons)

That's what I was looking for detail on. Can it be coded to use at speed but close the screen on a timer or distance?

I love the side and top view camera. Makes you feel secure when parking your car or checking your surroundings. I was debating for a while but I am happy I decided to get it.

It becomes really useful when pulling into parking lot spots. Perfect parking on the first try. Go for it

disclaimer=>remember the 535i is a bigger car hence more benefit from this feature, also you may not need if you already good parking.

scenarios:

-when parking at the store/supermarket etc.... just to make shure I'm in the right spot, in between the lines, and may protect the lower front bumper where the sensors may fail.

-when approaching any drive thru, I can get the closest to the window without banging the rims, some drive thru have narrow and sharp curves

-every time going into my garage

-parking between two cars next to the curbside

In summary, for me this feature has keep my tires/rims in perfect condition, not a scratch in almost 3 years driving it

may choose this option again in the M3 just because I'use to it
Same for me....well said. Regarding parking in garage, I find the projected line very handy for maximizing space in front of the car....basically making the rear close as possible to the garage door.

My f30 335i loaner had this feature and it was very cool. At first I thought it was pointless, but it's very useful in lining your car up straight. Not worth it for me though, all I need is the PDC and a back up cam.

2 Questions:

- When you get ala carte side and top cameras, does the speed limit info feature become enabled?

- What's the cost of the ala carte cameras?

For me, the surround view that Nissan/Infiniti has works much better than the BMW system. The cameras are much clearer on the BMW, but with no front camera available, it hampers the convenience.

I hope to feel more comfortable with it after re-delivery. Regardless, this would be a good option to skip for those looking at maximizing option dollars.
