My '19 squealed like a barn full of pigs inside a 30 year old school bus. My '22 is ~95% quieter. I do still get very slight occasional brake squeal, but under very specific circumstances. There has definitely been some change during the time you mention. Knocking at the door of 5K miles now, where my previous car started squealing consistently in the high hundreds of miles up until I traded it in at 29K.

My Daily is a 20' G05 X5 and I will say that for years the brakes have been very noisy and all I heard from SA and BMW was "it is normal". Fast forward ... about 3 weeks ago I had the front pads replaced under maintenance plan and ZERO brake noise since. It may be way too early to celebrate but maybe the latest revision is across all brake platforms.
22 M5C with CCB's ... quiet and dustless. Loving every minute.

Absolutely! I'm 5K in on the newer pads — so far, so good! Hoping it'll hold for a couple of years.

See my post about mid-way down the page.
https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1911294&page=3 TL DR; had ACG/Porterfield on my 2018, and after 1000 miles squeal and dust came back big time. Have iSweep on my 2021 w/ 16k now, and zero squeal with minimal brake dust (about a 95% improvement over OEM). Best mod I've put on the car yet. |

Eeuroparts has the set of 4 rotors for $1117 shipped. They are branded SHW not BMW but SHW makes them for BMW.
https://eeuroparts.com/product/shw-p...nce/4205448KIT I bought them during the BF sale for something like $980 shipped. I have not decided on pads yet, maybe the BMW sport pads or something like them. Lower performance and lower dust are not my goal. Would like to see a stopping distance test of fresh 2018-2021 stock pads, the low dust aftermarket isweep 1500, the 2022 stock pads that supposedly reduce dust, and the BMW sport pads. Unlikely such a test will ever be done, though. You also might be able to have your rotors turned. I thought about it but mine have 43k miles, rust in the vanes, and enough wear that spending the money to turn probably is not worthwhile. I will just change them later this year. |

BMW should be ashamed of themselves that owners have to go through this. I have had my share of performance cars and never had this problem. Examples include panamera, 911, and AMG GT 4 door currently and many others before it. Considering getting into a F90 but this issue would bother me significantly..

my brother has a 23 m8 with steels and I have a 22 with steels, his brakes are pretty squeaky but mine are equivalent to an 18 wheeler level of squeaking. both have horrendous amounts of dust.. so i dont think they updated anything on the newer cars

I only replaced the pads and kept the same rotors.

Whether that is a good idea depends on the condition of your rotors. If the surface is smooth and not rippled from wear or pad deposits, then reuse the rotors. If rippled from wear or pad deposits, maybe test with a roloc on a die grinder to see if it is pad deposits that you can remove yourself. If the rotors have ripples but are pretty low mileage and the ripples are not pad deposits you can eliminate yourself, remove the rotors and take them to a machine shop for resurfacing. Drilled rotors can be resurfaced. Factor in your time, the cost of any work you must pay for, and whether the rotors will have enough life left afterwards for the effort and expense to be worthwhile.
I could put $400 worth of new pads on my rippled old rotors without doing anything, but that does not result in the best braking and will result in uneven pad wear and make it more likely I will be buying another set of pads and new rotors before long. People have ground down pads to eliminate uneven wear so maybe that could be an option to reuse the pads if you do new rotors before the new pads wear out. Lots of options. Pick what suits your needs best. I know a few people who shared a set of race pads they would periodically run on their street cars to clean pad deposits off that tend to accumulate from daily driving with modern street pad formulations. I have never done this. |

Not to ruin it for the 23 folks. But I have a 23 m5c, a little more than 2k miles, and they have started to squeak only at low speeds, coming to a stop. I daily it in traffic, and usual places.
Normally I would step on the brakes more when coming to a complete stop to fix this, and it works, it lasted a few weeks, now it's started again. Not really annoying loud, but loud enough to hear. April I'm taking it to the track, I'm sure the squeak will go away, and I'm sure I'll need new brakes as well then. 😆 |

Interesting. I have a few friends with C, E, and GT AMGs that have steel brakes and all of their cars exhibit the same behavior as the F90s with steel brakes.
Also, the merc service gives them the same line of BS that BMW gives us about this being normal for performance brakes. ¯\_(O_o)_/¯ |

I got the Porterfield pads too - front and rear - don't waste your money. They were quiet for a few hundred miles and started squeaking. They don't squeak as bad as the OEMs my car came with (2020 M5 Comp), but they do squeak too much to be acceptable. I'm just happy to read there are new OEM pads available. I'll get them since I own this car and plan on keeping it. |

I have a ‘23 M5 (~4800 miles) and the squealing/whistling noise started for me at around 4500 miles. Heading to the dealer for an oil change next week. Is there anything that they can do about this issue? I’ve read the threads but it doesn’t look like there will be something they can do about it..
