M5 new V8 engine - S68

Here's some info on the new motor. Fully M built and designed.
Looks like the "M light" cars are getting it too.

Rumors are the M5 with this and the EV boost will be 700hp
If true, the M550 should be 600hp or more.
Either way, i'm psyched they're keeping a V8 !

Will be interested in the technical manual if it ever becomes available to see the differences. M Models will likely get bigger turbos and should share the same powerplant as the XM which is 750hp. Problem is it will weigh 5000lbs and have a 4 foot long screen for a dash

Can’t wait for the updated “is the m550/m560 a real m” threads when they have S68 engines in them this time

If the X7 M60i only has 523hp + 12 from the electric motor, I'd imagine the M550/M660 (whatever they call it) will be around the same.

XB7 takes it to 621 hp. The true engine output doesn't seem substantially greater than the S63, it just has a hybrid assist in the transmission. Given, we haven't seen production numbers on a full M car yet.

The Author was trying to reveal what the current N63 motor NOW has .....he did a shitty job at it.

My 2020 M550 has the updated N63 internals and makes 523Hp /553Tq

That article says the 60i has the same power output as n63, so they dumbed the engine down for non-m cars or it's inaccurate. I haven't looked into much past that.

Theres a new Blog that just dropped today. It goes into more detail and also describes an updated transmission as well.
In short, the M5 will get full power while other vehicles will be "detuned" as necessary. Every car/suv that has a V8 will get the S68, but it will not be the same as the M5. The M5 will still be "unique".

LOL, probably true, but I am interested in how BMW is now directing air in the new motor.
It's completely different from the previous model.

Since the 3/4 series now look like beavers, I suspect the new 5 series will resemble a walrus.

Definitely looks like installing the next iteration of eventuri will be a PITA compared to the F90. Haha

As does the x7 m50i…. Yet the 60i makes the exact same with the S68 minus the 12 hp boost from the electric motor. They are gonna detune it, same thing AMG has been doing for years.

For older models with the n63 or s63, I'm curious if the s68 engine would bolt right in. Anyone know if the s68 dme control the hybrid system?
