Retrofit or enable remote start

Hi,

UK models do not have the remote start option due to emissions/insurance laws etc.

I was wondering if the hardware/software was still available within the car but would require unlocking so that I could use remote start.

Anyone know anything about this or how I can enable remote start to a UK 2021 LCI Comp?

Cheers

You could try Simon from Bavarian Coding down in Southampton. if there is a way, he will know how. If he does, let me know!

It is something that can be activated through coding. Not BimmerCode though 😂 it's done with some other professional software

Thanks, I will give him a call today. He is located at the other end of the country but if he can do it, it will be worth the drive!

I have been in touch with two companies.

The first was Simon from Bavarian Coding - who seems to know his stuff but told me that he is so busy that it's not something he would be interested in doing right now. He also told me that it would take some serious research on his part prior to even giving me a quote. He is also based 400 miles away from me!

The second company I contacted was Defined Coding BMW. He was very professional and explained that I would need the large key (with screen) for the M5 and that the job was very expensive but doable. He requested the VIN, but then never got back in touch - this was about 2 weeks ago.

It seems to be a very difficult and possibly very expensive job to get done, which doesn’t make sense to me given that the hardware is most probably preinstalled but deactivated on a software level.

Still no further forward with this and this morning I was scraping ice off the windscreen.

Did you contact 12V Solutions? Not for coding but for a remote module. Not cheap plus you need to sacrifice a remote or buy an extra. I have one for my Cayenne.

I talked to a company out of Russia HighPerformanceCentre, they have done lots of retrofits on BMW's, and very experienced in BMW electronics. I have seen them do many new BMW's and retrofit remote start in them. But unfortunately they told me they cannot do a 2019 M5, they didn't provide much explanation as to why they can't. But if they say they can't do it, I doubt anybody else can :
