20” vs 21” wheels

Want to hear everyone’s opinion on 20” vs 21” wheels. Would probably go HRE P101 in 21” or R101 LW in 20”. 285/30 front 295/30 rear MPSS tires in 21” and 285/35 front 295/35 rear MPS 4S in 20”.

Will lower with M550 H&R or KW HAS.

What does everyone prefer? Terrible roads in MN makes me want to stay with 20” along with larger tire selection.

21" is best with a 30 tire profile....20" gives you a thick 35 profile...doesnt look right

I didnt notice much of a difference in ride coming from OEM 20's to 21" HRE's.

Love the look of 21's
but we have bad roads here in Toronto as well, so i personally went with 20's

20' looks a bit small for this car, so if you are going aftermarket definitely go with the 21'.

I prefer 21"wheels on this car personally. With that said, I've seen some great 20" setups.

The key to any aftermarket wheel IMO is the suspension setup. With the right suspension both 20/21" wheels can work well.

I went with P101s in 21". I have 275 fronts/295 rears on KW HAS. 275 to be sure there was no rubbing. Rubber on HREs, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

The 20 vs 21 debate really comes down to if you like the way the OEM tire profiles look on the car. Some say the tall tires make the wheels look too small while others are fine with it. I would agree the 21's look far better however if performance is your focus I would go with the smaller 20's for weight reasons.

I can build the HRE R101 Lightweights in either 20" or 21". 20's are showcased below.

If you need any help on choosing the right style, color, or fitment give me a shout. We're the largest dealer in the world for HRE Performance Wheels and own an F90 launch edition so we know it inside & out.

I'm bummed that there are so few wheel options for the M5.

Audi offers the RS6 (actual model but updated this year) already with 21'.

I'm driving my M2 with the M Performance wheels 763 in 19' front and 20' rear and it looks just right.

The M5 is such a huuuuuuge car so I'm bummed that BMW doesn't offer a nice 21' option.

I have lamented the "war on sidewalls" over the last 15 years. IMO, sidewalls are a critical part of the suspension system...my favorite part because they are passive / have no moving parts, no need for tuning (other than pressures), etc. Anyway, I love the fact that this car has sorta "old school" sidewalls with 20s. My last car had no sidewall at all with 19s, and that made it ride so much harsher than this car...so I vote for 20s.

This is why everyone goes with aftermarket wheels. No limitations for those that want to get rid of the heavy OEM wheels and replace them with stylish lightweight 21's.

I had 21s on my F10 and they just could not stand up to city driving. They look amazing but can't do it on a daily.

Really depends on where you live and what the roads are like; Miami's roads are pretty good. I've had 21" on 2 F10 M5's and current 19' M5C w/ no issues.

Fair enough. Houston roads are a trash sandwich.

In that case 20" for sure.
