My SA told me under 2000 miles for the break in is OK. That said, I did mine at about 1300 miles by the time my appointment date came up.

some update
So it turns out the reason the first run-in service was late was because there were no stock of front differential fluids in all service centers in Korea.
Many others were affected by this and got a late service. Warranty is fully alive. Also, I took the car out for test drive (for 2 days) and car is very normal and strong. Even at 6500mile since the last engine oil change, the oil level is still at full. I'll post more update after I acquire the car. Thanks for your concerns. |

thanks guys
I've put a few hundred miles on the car now.
The car seems very strong and I'm happy with it. I went ahead and changed the oil (and the filter) myself today. Put 10 quarts of Redline 0w-30 (LL-01FE) and reset the timer on the dashboard (which suggest 15000km (9400miles) as the next oil change) I know there could be a risk on a long term, but in the short term, everything seem to be in order. Also installed 3D Design carbon paddle shifter today, couldn't be happier. Thanks guys! |

2: idk what performance cars you've owned but 90% of high performance cars have a break in service (other than porsche). Heck camaros do it at 500 miles. 3: I can't tell if you're trolling when you say the n63 and s63 are the same engine... the only thing the same is pretty much the bore and stroke and maybe the block. 4: at least you're right about the oil... |

In addition, you may experience issues when you come to trade in or sell the car should you decide to go for it despite the opinions given here.
It could have a significant impact on how much you get My 2 cents is walk away, there are plenty of other m5 a out there that will be fully certified |

The video shows that the oil is in fact a mineral based oil during break in and is much thinner than the regular oil. This is why there are restrictions on speed/RPM. The special oil isn't able to properly lubricate in those conditions. The other good explanation in that video is there is in fact a change at the break in service. What difference it makes is not explained. Non-M cars start in transport mode and during PDI, get set to normal mode. M cars start in transport mode and go into running in mode during PDI and at the break in service the tech has to switch to to normal mode. The diff oil is also completely different. It goes from some milky color to a translucent green color. |

I did some testing before and after the service.
80-120 was still the same time after several runs. What I did notice was D3 may have started behaving differently. Some downshifts put the RPMs at 7k+ and I didn't notice it doing that before. I also noticed it now holds RPMs at 6k+ in some cases where I'm not sure it was doing that before. So maybe the removal of some constraints while in D3? |

I have had just about every flavor of car except BMW until recently. Although I work on them all the time. Not trolling. Not ignorant either. They are pretty much the same engine. I stand by that comment. There are differences, but to say they don't share the majority of the same DNA is incorrect. Last edited by Rickala; 02-05-2023 at 11:07 PM.. |
