Spreadsheet for Lease vs Finance

Anybody want to take a crack at my spreadsheet I put together yesterday and let me know if I miscalculated anything or left something out. There is a BMW lease example on the right I used to see if I could get the numbers to match, but they leave so much nuance out in their little grift fine details disclaimer. Tried uploading xlsx file but wouldn't let me. If you would like file to check calculations just message me with your email. Thanks.

Did your car come in already?

What's the acquisition fee for the finance?

No I just slipped that in because I wasn’t sure if there was some bs origination fee for the loan or not. Is that not the case? Car comes in this weekend.

Not according to BMW website anymore. I just had that in there if possible. The rebate numbers are variable and may or may not be possible. Not sure how strict BMW is about that. I'm going to see what I can get, but if they are going to be dicks I'll just walk away.

Just a quick snap shot look but:

- MF and residuals are off depending on age of unit but I think you knew that. 36/10k on 19's is 51%.

Destination is included in the MSRP so dont re add it.
Gas Guzzler is included in the MSRP so dont re add it.

Disposition fee is not collected at inception.

and yes there is no acq fee on a retail loan only lease.

Awesome thanks for that. Yeah my MSRP is Sugg. MSRP (car and options), not Total MSRP (incl. GG tax and Dest.). Just wanted to break it out in case there was wiggle on that.

And yes residuals suck on 19s.

Thanks again.

Roughly how much per month does a difference in residual between 61% and 51% make on the lease payment? Let's just assume 5k down for the example.

5K down with everything else static...about $354/mth difference...and what I have in there now is 2018 rebates...I'm delusional in thinking they'll honor those since they screwed up my order once....but I haven't erased those just yet because it's sad and I'm still romanticizing.

A simple rule of thumb outside of any down is just to assume that one is paying that much more in depreciation or in this case 10%.

So if a 120k msrp car has 10% lower residual, you are rolling 12k plus interest plus tax on that gain in depreciation divided by the term into your payment if the other factors remain static like money factor sell rates.

This is a rough view of course since a lower residual over all yields a lower money factor dollar amount since rent charge = net cap plus residual times money factor.
