What's wrong with that? Porsche has made this an artform with a lot of cash to show for

To be fair, that car hasn't been tested comprehensively and will likely be a very fast and competent car. MB is also not known for ringers.

I expect that Sportauto will have this car quickly on the ring to compare to AMG's measured run. Although that may be in spring.

That said, this car is not attractive to my eyes and completely overpriced.
Yeah, based what I have in the preliminary German magazine tests, it will be a competent car despite the porky weight.

It’s just not a game changer. Price point is one thing, but I don’t really care about the price point if it is a game changer. It will be quicker than the F90 on the Ring and equal to the F90 in the 1/4 mile . Yawn. That reverts the comparison back to style, ergonomics, etc.

If it was equal to the F90 on the Ring and 1.0 seconds and 10mph faster at the 1/4 mile. I’m interested. Game Changer.

True. Maybe they are doing it to offset weak Cayenne and Panamera sales.

I agree - MB is pretty consistent - it could have been a bad test. And I also agree - SA will help set the record straight (pun intended lol) as it will at least be a consistent test (not same day but something).

Curious - how does it manage to get a better track time despite being heavier and having marginally more power? Is it the torque?

4 wheel steering and some aero trickery.

The Cup 2 tires on it were also an option in the ZO6 I bought. Did not get them as the tread is not good in normal rain driving on the street. They are awesome track tires.

Absolutely the tyres made the difference for the better track time.
I don't know how many will go on track with a car like this..
A big compromise was made here.. but not so much logic in it!

Same with new Pam Turbo vs the old Pam Turbo, despite no improvement in terms of power and weight, new Pam Turbo is much quicker on track.

I wont get into all the minutia of the performance differences between the two- its going to be negligible at best IMHO... but the 160 is the top of the monroney and after just destination and standard taxes it will be around 165k and thats for a flat car with zero and I mean zero on it.

Our M5's non CE are at 103k and I dont know anyone here who got that bare of a car. I would estimate that with the average options on the GTS AMG car we will see pricing circa the higher 170's to mid 180's and I had guessed that almost half a year ago. Clearly this car will have to speak to someone or be in limited production because it could fall into the bad graces like the Panny Turbo from a pricing perspective. There are just too many options that are cheaper in this segment. Its not a full size luxo speed barge like an S63 AMG either and those buyers dont care about what a track time says.
Styling of the Merc doesn't speak to me at all, that's not to say M5 is much better but less extreme! Talk playing it safe!

Admittedly I've not driven many AMGs but looks, styling, performance, luxury, and price all considered, I'd still have the M5C.

That said, what a great time it is to have all these cars coming onto the market. We live in an age of excess power and performance. It's crazy where the modern performance benchmarks are set.
