318D F30 N47 Remapped Today

Had my 318D remapped today, 2013 72k miles.

I requested a safe and reliable map rather than pushing to the limits and incredibly happy with the results:
  • 141bhp to 186bhp
  • Torque 338Nm to 431Nm

Difference driving is genuinely night and day, very refined, the uplift in power and in particular the +90 Nm of torque is VERY noticeable through all gears.

If you're on the fence I highly recommend, superb service from J28 Remaps too if you are local :-)

Just thought I'd follow up after a week of use, I do pretty much the same run every other day 55 miles 30/70 local roads and motorway and MPG actually seems to be up slightly which given the performance increase is great :-)

I like the two exhaust tips out the back. Did you add that or is it oem outside of the old usa?

I'm thinking of getting my 320D mapped when the warranty is up.

Did the remap (or any of your other cosmetic mods) affect your insurance much?

Not much at all, £38 extra for the remaining 7 months, I suppose its still fairly modest, the torques quite a jump but the BHP is only just above a standard 320d. Just had to scan and email the remap printout with the registration showing.

Not bad at all...just hope they charge me a similar amount considering it'll be parked in a street in Liverpool

MPG improvement with additional power.
Did you have the TCU remapped as well?
Egr/dpf removed?
I'm also tempted going this way but uncertain since reliability, throwing codes, black smoke etc...

MPG improvements aren't difficult since diesels can run as lean as 70:1 air fuel ratio. They generally don't touch the low load areas of the map. They just add more fuel in boost.

So long as the fuel rail and boost pressures aren't increased, there won't be any reliability concerns.

EGR, DPF and swirl flap deletion is another story. Coding them out won't throw fault codes but you will get smoke. How much depends on the tune.

There are several ways you can get an MPG increase. The main realistic way is if you remove DPF.
It is also possible to decrease boost pressure during cruising but this is not advised and usually not done during remap-s (only increase at higher ends). This will lead to a small MPG gain.
Then there's also the possibility of playing with SOI & EOI but this is a dangerous territory and factory got it fairly good in the first place - of course optimizations can be done if you disable EGR but generally noone touches this at lower/cruising loads...

Increasing boost pressure to run more lean will not give you better economy but will decrease economy due to wasted work of turbo. Diesels without turbo's are actually more economical but slower.

But what usually leads to a increase in MPG is placebo or most commonly playing around with injection duration maps which will lead ECU to think the engine is injecting less than it actually is.

In my family we have 2 20d's. One f20 120d n47 rwd and a f30 320d touring rwd b47. And i can vouch for decrease in fuel consumption. No placebo but genuine decrease!
The 320d has a stage 1 map with EGR OFF. I advise everyone to turn the EGR off as i understand it, it can cause various problems and alter the fuel/air ratio which can increase consumption etc. Turning it off has made the engine run much smoother and consumption has dropped. We travel every year throughout Europe (2000km-3000km trips, 4 full grown adults and full baggage, 18 inch wheels) and the first trip when car was stock we could NEVER get under 5.8l-6.0l/100km, and that is measured on the pump not speedometer.. And thats amazing even on stock considering we have a average speed of 160km/h on the autobahn. But after EGR OFF, AdBlue off and a Stage 1 map we average 5.1l-5.5l/100km on the same trips. It has been mapped like this for the past 2 years and we always get the same consumption on every trip. We as a family are amazed that the car even can get to that low number. As mentioned before. 4 full grown adults!! full baggage! 18¨wheels!! and we drive on higher speeds, im talking about averaging 160 kmh on 10 hour drives with occasional 200kmh accelerations. And averaging 5.1l??? It is even hard to believe myself but it is what it is. Great machine!!
On daily driving to work etc we average 6.3-6.5 which also is very good!

The 120d has a downpipe with DPF OFF EGR OFF and Stage 2 map. Long trips average 5.0-5.5l/100km, and city driving 6.5-7.0 but i drive very aggressively considering the stage 2 map. Really fun litte car! The 500nm on this little rwd 120d is just too fun!
