I have Turner and like it a lot. Right before your post, I hit crap that flew off some guy's truck, which smashed the lower grill and gouged the turner plate. If this wasn't there, the oil cooler would most likely have taken the brunt of it all.

Does the Turner plate have big openings? I considered just buying some heavy gage metal grate and mounting it below the cooler.

Yes, it does have big openings. But like shown in my post above, I installed a stainless steel mesh in it.

My turn. Hit a curb in West U, on Buffalo Speedway, they just redid it and it narrows at one point, popped the passenger side front tire. BMW automatically called me and I asked for a tow. Quoted me $150, so I went ahead. They took it to Momentum. $860 to replace the tire and do a 4 wheel alignment. I'm going to replace the other 3 tires so they all match. So the flat is going to cost me over $2300! BMWs are expensive to keep! lol.

Sorry to hear that! Be glad you didn't damage a rim... or two!

Talking to my SA this morning and he said the tech would take 3 days to pull the old engine and have the new one installed. Pretty impressive! The SA said the tech used to work in the Dingolfing plant where M5s are made. He also said this tech is their top tech at this location.

I asked for multiple pics of the process so we will see what I get.

Sorry to hear this. I’m in San Antonio and the roads suck here too. Never a dull moment on the road dodging debris. Hope everything works out for you.

Yall really making me wanna avoid Texas when I take my road trip to LA (the California one) next week.... serious question but how bad is i10 going through TX? I know it's aids in LA (the French one) and I've only been off and on it a few times while I was in Houston last year.

Debris Damage

In 2015, my wife hit some debris in my 2013 M3, punched a 1 inch gouge in the oil pan. Surrounded by traffic at 80 mph, she continued to a nearby shop. Engine was toast and with $25k for an engine, Insurance totaled it, $25k for an engine. Her guilt gave me a 911 S that I drove for 90k wonderful miles. Just now got a 2020 M 5 Competition!! Wow, thrilled, what a car.

The overall condition of the main freeways is ok... apart from the constant roadworks to add lanes or just change something for shits and giggles (my opinion!). The interchange at 610 and 59/69, close to where both my and Ralph's damage occurred, has been a work in progress for the past 3 years if not more!

In my limited exposure to Houston roads, only lived here for 6 years, the minor roads are atrocious. So many poor repairs to road surface that sometimes an outback gravel track seems smoother to drive on.

Another pet peev are the numerous aggressively elevated driveways when exiting the road to enter shopping centre's, service stations, car parks etc. Very hard place on front splitters! I'd love to put a nice splitter on the front of mine but I fear it would only last a month or so!

All in all you'll be ok... just book a chiropractor appointment if you intend to spend anytime in Houston!

Btw - I drove from Houston to Northern California and back last year (in my trusty 2012 LR). Excellent road trip! Enjoy!

I can attest to what you said. The approach for parking lots can be abysmal sometimes. All the more reason I opted for a RW Carbon CS lip.

For anyone going through Houston on I-10, here's the Cliff's Notes version:
I-10 east of downtown Houston = bad
I-10 west of downtown Houston = good (generally speaking)

😂😂 yeah driving from NO to Houston was not fun glad to hear it's better on the other side. I'll try to cut in instead of going down to LA then cutting east. I only plan on visiting a friend for a bit (otherwise sleeping and getting back on the road haha)

This is my 3rd event within 1 mile of 610 on 59. About 4 years ago I hit debris in the road in my F80 going northbound on 59 right before 610. Then about 2 years ago, I hit a pothole on southbound 59 and bent a rim. I won’t repeat the recent event.

The whole world knows about I-10 West of downtown, all the anti car people reference it, as the worlds widest freeway, the Katy Freeway! I love it.

….put a hardy mesh on it for added peace of mind. You’ve been through enough mayhem.
