Has anyone installed a fire extinguisher bracket under the front passenger seat? I searched the forum and the internet thoroughly. I seem to be able to find brackets for every BMW except the F90. I am looking to put an actual traditional stored pressure fire extinguisher (like the first photo) not one of the slim rod ones by companies like Element (the second photo).

I have a discontinued BMW PN (52109496756) for their own actual fire extinguisher (which is significantly more expensive than from from say, Kidde, but looks awesome). That’s what I’d like to use, and I’d like to find a nice bracket for it.

There are several modifications on forum members’ rides which beg a similarly structured question.

No, F90s don’t catch fire regularly, but it’s a useful safety precaution.

Agree with Jakerx. I’m not asking because I think I’ll have a fire. An event that I am using the car in requires a “secured” stored pressure type fire extinguisher “forward of the front seat seat back, easily accessible to the driver.”

The location I am asking about just made sense, and if I’ve got to have a fire extinguisher I want it to look good.

It might be worth you asking in the Middle East section of this forum or checking websites based in the UAE.
Reason being is because it is the law to have a fire extinguisher in the car out there.

I have rented many ///M cars, Lambo's, Ferrari's, McLarens and AMG's out there and they have all had a fire extinguisher mounted in the cars. (And all looking very professional and not like some amature jobs I have seen.)

I usually have a local racing shop make me a bracket that attaches to the seat frame and moves along with it. I haven't done it yet on my 2023 M5 but I had it in my 2019. The only picture I could find is from a while ago on my 2002 E39 M5. I always use a 2.5lb extinguisher which is usually the minimum for open road racing events. The factory supplied extinguishers from BMW & Porsche are too small.

That’s great insight, Andy! I was not aware they had such a law. Thank you so much! I’ll be directing my search in that direction.

I really appreciate it!

Thank you so much for your input. That’s exactly what I am looking for!

I also had a ‘19 previously, and now have my ‘22. It looks like the seat and seat track and related dimensions have not changed in any appreciable way (or at all, really) from pre-LCI to LCI.

I’m not on the west coast, but since you’ve already dealt with your shop, would it be possible to pass along their contact info? Im also going to look into F30Andy’s suggestion, but I’m wondering if this is something they can do without having my car physically present in their shop.

Execution on your E39 looks amazing and is a very clean install. Car looks amazing as well.

Also, thanks for the tidbit about 2.5 pounds.

I am very grateful!

I always keep an Element in the drivers door compartment for track, but that's not really secure. Especially for rollover. This is a good idea.

As the track expert you are, I’ll humbly take any and all advice from you, Shawn.

I have Elements stashed around for various other hobbies as well. They store easily and the size is unbeatable. Fortunately, I’ve never needed to use one, but have done a decent amount of research in to them and they seem to be top quality. I just figure that if the extinguisher will have to be on display (even if only temporarily) I’d like it to look good as well, so the truth is even if they were allowed, I’d probably go with the stored pressure type still.

Thanks for the input and the insight!

Fires are rare on track, but still possible. The element can stop one when they are small and starting. The mounted ones like this and the distributed suppression systems are better at bigger, but the element is better than nothing. Last fire I saw was 2017. VIR. Black Ferrari 458 that flipped upside down in hogpen. Driver and instructor crawled out of windows while the car was upside down, and started to burn. It was epic…

And a very very bad day…

Shawn how does the Corsa’s treat you at VIR? I set a personal best but they only lasted a few laps? What starting pressures are you using.

Last event was Carolina Motorsports Park that chewed them up REAL bad. I start too high to keep wear even and low, but sacrifice traction to do it. I start at 28-29 average, to target coming off lap pressure at 40 (where they fall off terribly). For max traction on second lap, you’d probably need to start 25-26.

My Toyo RR’s from trackdaytire showed up for Audi for November. The corsas last event will probably be Chin in October at VIR.

I need to just to get some track rims so I can do something more aggressive. The heavy steel rims plus street tires probably is costing me time.

Where did you get steel rims for this beast?

OUCH. Glad they were okay.

Hope their track insurance was proper!

Just the 706M rims. I'm probably misspeaking on them being steel. I need a forged option.

I think they're cast aluminum. There are some forged out there. But track wheels are like dixie cups - what you buy you'd better not get attached to cause they get trashed fast.

If you have a budget, maybe I can make some suggestions?

They need my 2023 M5 to make another bracket. I can't find the piece I had made for the 2019. Never made it to any Open Road events this summer so shooting for next year. If I make another bracket I will PM you and ask if they can make an extra one.
