Bought used 18' M5 what to look out for?

Hey guys, Just purchased my first ever M5. Got a 2018 model from a dealer that has the ultimate care + and CPO warranty for another 8-10 months. Should I be purchasing any additional warranties and if yes from whom? Car currently has 36k miles and planning on keeping it for about 2 years.

My advice if you are only keeping car for 2 years it is not worth it plus you have 10 months of warranty left.

Warranties are around $5K for 14 months coverage not worth it and or have to deal with prorating warranty when you sell. You are covered for 10 months so that will allow if you have any problems from previous owner etc. I bought my 2018 2 years ago and put 10,000 miles on her. Currently at 26,000 miles no issues and car is just out of warranty… I will not be buying warranty and keeping this car for long time.

Enjoy your new ride

Welcome aboard!

I bought an extra 2 years at 23k miles. Just to sleep better if anything catastrophic happens. Not my first BMW 😎

Check the coolant reservoir over the back of the engine. Appears to be the Achilles heel of the car. Leaking reservoir onto the engine.

Keep an eye out for Charger owners that don't know what they don't know.

Watch for excessive smiling and the facial pain that goes with it. Get a radar detector. The Giddy School Girl laugh you hear when driving is not the passenger seat rattling.

I was in the same boat as you a week ago. I suggest at the very minimum a powertrain plus, its not that expensive and its good peace of mind. Can you afford 40K if something breaks? It is much easier to extend what you have than to let it lapse and then put a warranty back on. If you need a contact to help you, I have someone that recently got me a bmw warranty for a great price.

Agree. I extended my 2018 that just went out of warranty for 3yrs. It was only $3800 to do so through the dealer with Zurich I believe, full comp coverage.

Replace the reservoir regularly. Some are working on a metal tank, but no one knows how that will affect the car. Heat? Expansion? Unknown. But it'll probably be okay. But obviously BMW didn't know that tank would get leaky after 2-3 years.
