Connected Drive Profile
Hey guys, I just took delivery of my new '22 M5 Comp. I'm coming from a 2012 F10 so the iDrive has changed A LOT; the tech in this car is crazy.
The car greets me with my legal name but I'd like to use a shortened name (i.e. Bill instead of William or Nick instead of Nicholas, etc). I cannot find a way to rename the driver profile in the car or in the app. I then logged into the Connected Drive site and the only thing I see is under "my profile" it will let me update my address but says I need to call BMW to change my name. I called them and they said I need to submit my title, registration, insurance and then they can change it for me. Doesn't that seem like a lot? What if I had multiple profiles in the car, can none of them be renamed without that level of hassle? I next asked if I had to use T-Mobile for the hotspot service provider and the "genius" on the line started telling me how to connect a phone to the hotspot - clearly not understanding what I was asking so it made me think maybe she also didn't know what she was talking about with the display name change... anyone else have experience with doing this? Thanks! |

For a while, I changed it "Your Majesty" and other things that would amuse my kids. Haven't tried it in the '21 though.

I don't recall how to edit the profile, but at worst you can delete the profile from the iDrive screen and then set up a new one.
I vaguely recall doing this when I first got my '21 M5c. |

Update: I emailed BMW Assist. They replied in less than an hour with just "information has been updated" and asked me to logout and back in again. That fixed my issue and the car now displays my name correctly. So I'm not sure how or if we can change it manually in this iDrive 7 world where the car is linked to your bmw profile... but at least if anyone else runs into this it's a quick email to BMW Assist for the fix.

I'm doing that to my wife's car. If I don't post again, you know why. :
