top gear UK have a review of the car on the site they stated its faster than the E63s that video they recorded will be used as internet content. like they did with the other cars they reviewed but posted online on youtube. mostly the drag races get used for the online youtube content. they just used the M5 wheel in the trailer and opening sequence. it will probably be on there youtube channel in few weeks/months

and it doesn't matter if the M5 jumped in this race cant you see the M5 pulling away the merc never wouldve catched up anyway lol

AutoBild Sportscars - head 2 head - M5 wins
CAR magazine UK - head 2 head - M5 wins
Automobilemag - head 2 head - M5 wins
Motormag - head 2 head - M5 wins
Road&Track - M5 is faster than E63S
TheMotoristSA - head 2 head - M5 wins
Carwow - M5 is somehow slower than m760i

just shows that the standard M5 is faster than both E63 and E63S. when the comp pack comes (which is a direct competitor to the e63s) bye bye amg. and it will get destroyed even more when the CS arrives.
Wow fanboy! (I know this is a BMW board) I'll answer your points of criticism one by one....

- They used comfort mode only for the rolling race where both cars were in comfort mode. Go actually watch the video rather than comment on it. I can go on about how the E63s launches better in Comfort suspension, but I am not even going to bother about optimal launches as the E63s doesn't need them to beat the m5.
- Top Gear did a full segment where they review the cars not just the youtube drags they sometimes post. This is evidenced by Chris Harris' twitter account where he mentions thrashing them about. Which again begs the question why pull the segment at exactly the launch of the M5? The rolls royce content also got pulled.
- Car magazine, Automobilemag, motormag are the same review!!!! They use the same pics and virtually identical language (welcome to media recycling). Whilst Evo Magazine, Top Gear, Chris Harris,
Autozeitung all say E63s (and these are completely separate publications)
- E63s is the most natural competitor to the M5, a standard E63 doesn't have RWD mode, has 30hp less, no active engine mounts and costs almost 15k less than the m5. The E63 isn't even available in most countries outside EU.

From another members comments - the Merc makes its power down low and the F90 more middle-top.

Trap speeds are close. Gearing is 9 gears (Merc) versus eight with better final gearing for 1/4 mile on the BMW.

That said, I will say the race we saw on Top Gear is what you would see on the street 9/10 times - IF the settings on both cars are maximized. The Merc will likely own the roll overall.

That same Owner posted about not being on the correct settings and that the performance was night and day on the M5 when he was on the maximum settings.

We shall see with the Motortrend test - which I have went on record many times stating that the M5 will be quicker and faster to 60 and the 1/4. That will make it 3 for 3 for the F90 in the major (three) North American magazines.

Either way - both cars are super quick for what they are. Additionally, it seems the M5 is the more agile, and the E63S has more power on tap in every gear and rpm. I am sure people would be happy to own both...

As I have also written many times - - it's a great time to be a car enthusiast!
If you review dyno’s of both I noticed they both have pretty much the same powerband the e63s makes power all the way to redline even if it didn’t feel that way. The biggest advanatage the m5 will have with drag races is the 300 pound weight difference which will make it launch harder with less mass to get going. Roll races should be close with the e63 possibly having an edge due to gearing and some extra power plus weight doesn’t matter as much once rolling. The CP M5 should be able to beat the e63s in both drag and rolling races. It will be interesting to see if Merc release an e63 “R” to not fall so far behind because it’s obvious the CP M5 will clearly be faster. Audi might be waiting for the dust to settle to trump all with the new rs7 at least with acceleration times as I doubt it gets close to the handling of the m5.

No fanboy - just facts. With Motortrend - that will be 3 of 3 major NA Magazine tests for the M5.

Comfort mode is best for any car to be launched in as it allows more weight transfer/suspension flex and contact to the tires.

Carwow tested both cars separately - with the same tires this time - and had the car exactly one tenth ahead - just like the magazines.
Fast forward to the differing tires for the head to head and suddenly the E63S is much quicker.

The E63S is not the direct competitor to the M5. Just like the F10 - which had the E63 and the M5 CP had the E63S. The M5 is already hitting above its pay grade (the E63S is more expensive). There will be an E63R and an M5 CP - those will compete. It isn't BMW's fault MB created a car below the standard of their base M5 (base meaning there are no lower end models). Simply because the E63 doesn't have AWD does not mean it wasn't the base AMG E model.

Either way - they are close - no question. But I will state again - 9/10 times - with proper settings for each - the M5 will win to 60 and the 1/4 by a car to a car and a half. The E63S will win 9/10 in a mid-top end roll.

We shall find out.

It depends which dyno sheet you looked at - there was a tuned E63S - I didn't see the stock pull.

I agree with your assessment.

Agree to disagree ... both cars are insane and have jointly pushed 4-door sedans to new heights.

I don't disagree with anything in particular, in fact, I think both cars are great. One is not better than the other IMO, just depends on who you ask.

So in this video both cars were using Launch Control? Is that right? Seems like the M5 was definitely using Launch Control but no mention of it in the video for the Mercedes.

Also, I believe that the DCT also autoshifts from 1st into 2nd gear when using Launch Control.

Can anyone confirm that if you are in manual shift mode and you miss the shift in the F90 M5 that the transmission will not shift up automatically with the ZF8 transmission?i

Just as a point of reference for an AT, the ZF6 in the E70 X5 M auto-shifts from 1st to 2nd in manual mode when using Launch Control.

Motormag - M5
Road&Track - M5
Carwow - E63s (R&T feels the need to point out that they use different tires on the M5 lol.)

Adding this clip that's 7/8, pretty conclusive imo.
AutoBild Sportscars hasn't tested the cars yet. All the performance figures in that article are manufacture's quoted numbers.

Can't wait for the actual test.

Ok I call BS on all South African youtube vids.

BMW must have South Africa on the pay roll. BMW wins against everyone

M4CP vs RS5 - M4CP walks it
Alfa Guilia vs M3 vs C63 - M3 destroys them all
F10 M5 vs AMG GTS - M5 destroys the GTS
F90 vs E63s - M5 wins

Soon they will drag the m8 vs chiron....

You Sir, are very admirable for commenting on that.

All the publications referred to previously are copies of each other:

R&T/C&D=Hearst Publications
CAR mag/Automobile mag/Motor mag=Bauer Media

Their job is to market for the manufacturers across platforms to make it seem like a large consensus.

If you look at publications independently you will actually find that E63s is winning more than the m5 for being a raw beast (which is what you want otherwise get a 335i).

Besides this, ignore magazines, test drive and make your own opinion.

I drove both last week. I canceled my M5 order. My e63s comes in 2 weeks. Can't wait! Even if the e63s is 1/10 slower(if it actually is) it still looks, sounds and drives better. First time I've felt that about an AMG over an M. I've had 5 Ms too. I felt like I was driving a more special car in the e63s. The M5 interior looks like a 3 series to me.

I'm not joking. I pulled my deposit on the M5. The M5 interior design looks like a 3 series to me. Same shape and overall design concept. Nothing screams special about it. It's boring to my eye. You feel like you are in a spaceship in the e63s. The design is far superior. I actually felt like I was in 100k sport sedan when I was in the Mercedes.
