Free Scheduled Maintenance? (Imported Cars)

I think the answers is no. Is the free scheduled maintenance program still in effect if you import your car from the states? What if you go to the states to get the work done, is it covered there?

What is covered under the program? Oil changes, what else?

Thanks!

Everything but oil and breaks is covered in Canada; however, some dealers will still cover the oil change. If you go to the U.S. your maintenance is still covered fully.

I have an imported car from the States and the answer is no. Free scheduled maintenance is not offered in Canada for American made cars. However the free maintenance service is offered in the states for your car.

Therefore if you make the drive to the states for maintenance, it will be free. I have been doing this since I got my car. Towne BMW in Buffalo is the closest to me (45 minute drive). I am glad I go there because the service is a lot better then dealers close by here.

On the bright side, having the American Free maintenance plan means that your brakes are also covered which is great when the time comes to replace the pads and rotors.

Thanks a lot for the info

So I guess I'll just get everything done here in Canada. When it time for the brakes, I'll drive down to the states... the closest dealer for me is a bit of a drive, a little over 2 hours.

Even though I didn't buy it from that US dealer, its still covered at any US dealer correct?

Yep every US dealer will cover it. In the end BMW NA are the ones who pay the dealers back for the work done.

Ummm, you didn't buy it from the U.S.? Why would they cover your breaks? I don't think so man.

Hes talking about a specific dealer in the States. In the above posts, were were talking about Towne BMW in Buffalo and he was asking if the maintenance plan will be covered at different dealers with the USA for a US bought car

It was still originally imported from the states so it will be covered.

Just to let you know, if your car was bought in the USA then all the maintenance work you want to do in Canada will cost you. I am not sure what you were saying above.

I.e Oil changes will cost you when doing it in Canada, but will be free if you do it in USA for a US bought car.

One dealer (laval bmw) here treated me like an ass, and they said that they are not going to give me the warranty.....yes, EVERYTHING.
Then i went to another dealer (canbec) and they were so helpful, and they took care of me everytime i go there!

I did buy it from the US, just not the dealer that's close to me (WA). I bought it from FL.

Does the BMW assist also transfer over, including all the benefits like trip cancellation etc?

+1

Free maintenance is not covered in Canada, but covered anywhere in the USA.

BMW Assist DOES transfer over, but you have to call the AMERICAN phone number, and they route you through to the Canadian guys.....

^ cool.

Anyone here not change their instrument cluster (speedometer)...apparently you don’t have to anymore and you could around the stealership. Just wondering if some has not changed it and the stealer declines doing warranty work.

I didn't change my cluster, rule changed, though BMW Canada LIED to me several times regarding that.....and I just had my power steering pump replaced under warranty, no issues. Helps if you walk in with Doughnuts though.....big time.....

I have a American car. What are the stipulation for replacing your brake pads and rotors if I drive to the States. Can I just make a appointment asking to change them or do they have to be at the end of it's life?

My cluster was changed. I have a km/hr only speedometer. I wanted a clean look which is why I went with that.

Only when the service indicator on your car tells you that it is time to replace the brakes. When it gives you a yellow light, that means it is time to look at booking an appointment. These dealerships get paid from BMW NA only if the indicator says that it is time to change. I am trying to plan it so that my brakes need replacing near the end of the free maintenance plan It is such a big savings when it is replaced for free as they change the pads and rotors.
