Interesting read on the rods
https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1532911 "Direct-injected fuel pressure remains on the lower end of the spectrum for at 2,900 PSI in the X5’s N63, while the M5’s system blasts premium octane gasoline into the combustion chambers at over 5,000, which allows for improved atomization along with decreased injection duration latency and cylinder-wall wetting. The fuel pump and injectors used in the S63 of the M5 competition employ their own upgraded materials for their internal components. Pistons also differ between the two. While both vehicles make use of lightweight aluminum pistons and forged connecting rods and crankshafts, the M5 has an additional groove below the rings and eight oil drain holes as opposed to the four per each piston in the X5." |

One interesting thing is that Carbahn is selling two different engine rebuild kits for the S63 ,one up to production date 3/2019 and one from 4/2019.
Same thing for their built stage 1 2 3 engines. That seems too indicate that something was changed in this time. https://carbahnautoworks.com/product...-engine-parts/ https://carbahnautoworks.com/product...d-from-4-2019/ |

How is there so little information on this. In the AMG world, they release engine internal changes and any tweaks made to the engines of different models... Bimmer, its like trying to find bigfoot.

From what I've seen after getting my RS3 motor built, builders are not sharing shit thees days keeping it as much of a secret as possible.

I meant at the factory level, when they release changes to the engine design.
Aftermarket builders, ya, I don't blame them, they have to take apart the engine and send all the specs in for parts companies to come up with new rods, pistons, etc. |

Why do they have to, I mean sure I agree its kind of a key selling point unless its not really an upgraded. Personally most manufactures can now bean count and know how much strength and how not to put to much cost into things for stock power.

Bottom line, if you abuse the car, stock or tuned, there’s a good chance you’re going to break something. Don’t kill it every time it’s on the road, maintain the oil and plugs, warm her up before doing some pulls, and with a reputable tune the car is going to be fine most likely.

Believe the F90/F92 is the same motor, and you see how much they are pushing it CarBahn is pushing theirs to 882HP. not sure what the limit is but i'm thinking it can take more that stock for sure.

882 crank hp on 100 octane and 824 on 93. With 15% loss, probably more like 750 rwhp for 100. Still very good for a comfortable, practical driver with a little bit of sportiness.

Looked up the S63 engines at realoem.com and the older and newer short engines have different parts numbers.
From 7/2019 it says its LDS coated meaning most likely means its the cylinder bores and probably the cast aluminum block material is changed too. It's probably the same stuff as in other newer engines like the S58 ect. Also the pistons and some crank bearings have different parts numbers they're maybe more changes but thats what i could see at quick glance. |

Unless the motor was pulled and put on a dyno, I would take those crank HP numbers with a huge grain of salt. Classic Dinan sales pitch. Matt does great reviews, but 9 second quarter. Cmon.

From my understanding it's basically that they spray the aluminum cylinder walls with hot iron that sticks and that creates a hard durable cylinder wall surface that then later is honed. It's possible there is more changes but i don't know. |

Got it, that's very interesting. I noticed that the M8 S63 had the LDS since it's inception. The M5, like you said, only got it from the 2020+ model years. Hopefully these all contribute to a more reliable S63 over time. |
