M5 Competition the worst car I have ever owned
When you buy the flagship of the BMW range I.e. the M5 iconic car. And especially the 2019 M5 competition you would simply expect a A1 vehicle. Well this is not the case. This car has been the worst experience I have ever experienced.
My car is now 10 months old and I have lost 3 months of usage due to the car being at the dealership trying to fix it. The problems started at the point of the 1200 mile service, since that day the car has been a nightmare. Day after service an engine knock started, took it straight back to be told no problem. Lived with it for a month, but had to book it in again. Requested appointment in May confirmed in June for July appointment. They had car for 4 weeks. Changed an out of balance alternator. Won't comment on what the service department did on test drive. Engine noise no different, sent car back to service. Replaced engine mounts this time, had vehicle 4 weeks. Returned vehicle, but this time with a damaged wheel. So car sounds slightly better, but not right. This time steering has developed a grinding noise. Well you can imagine my experience of owning the flag ship of BMW is proving a very distressing experience. So car goes back and they find a trim has come a drift and jammed in the steering rack!!! FFS Well my confidence has fallen through the floor on this car. Requested a replacement car only to be told I will have to make a contribution to do this. WTF do I have to do to get a car that works for a £110k !!!!!! Bottom line is I reported problem at 4 months They take 6 months to try and fix to no avail so where do I stand BMW!!!!!!! Any suggestions?? |

Which is the appropriate thread to reply on?
What are the lemon law rules in the UK? Seems like strange fixes for an "engine knock" as you describe it. When does the engine knock? What was the issue with a damaged wheel? I'm sorry to hear about all of the issues, but seems like you should rightfully be able to claim a lemon and move on to either a new car of same model, or collect your money and look elsewhere. I have a friend going through a similar issue with another manufacturer.... unfortunately they can't seem to resolve the issue with the lithium battery and his car has been idle now for 60 days so he is going through lemon law to get a replacement. |

Why? You can find posts like this on every car board. You should get a full history on the car anyway, and that includes service records. People return cars for all sorts of reasons. Some people just don't keep cars long, or return them for financial reasons, or because the car just wasn't for them. My first BMW I kept for 150 miles before returning it to buy my first M3. Nothing wrong with the car, I just wanted more performance. Point is you'll find a lot more people don't have this type of problem with this car than do... and as such won't need to start 4 threads to tell everyone they're not having any problems.

Get a solicitor involved and formally reject the car under the sales of goods act as not being fit for purpose. Lemons happen. |

With the vast advancements in assembly line production (robots and automation), and technology, it’s disappointing, annoying, and puzzling that this still occurs as much as it does. Equally disturbing is BMW supposedly has a quality check step during the production process...

Sounds like you should do the U.K. equivalent of lemon law and move on to a different car and/or different dealer. Luckily there are many great new cars to choose from and hopefully you'll have better luck!

Agree- while I sympathize with your woes, your vehicle is the exception and certainly not the rule. Of the 6 BMWs I've owned through the years, my 2019 M5 is the most problem-free of them all. Sure, it has minor issues which, if you read this board long enough, would convince you that BMW can't make a problem-free car ever. But EVERY car forum has dozens of threads devoted to the minority of drivers who've been dealt a raw deal in the luck of the draw department. In the words of the immortal Propofol abuser, MJ, one bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch, girl.

Ive had engine noise for 5 years now
Car aounds like a diesel and being an old part time mechanic aounds like noisy lifters. BMW has thrown parts including fuel pumps as well as others not known and now they just say normal operation. Dealer has shown me other M5 s that do not make this lofter clicking noise. BMW is not stepping up ans offer no recourse. Now my dash flickers and drive for 10 miles home thai evening with no dash lights foe weeks now its been flickering. Dealer claims that sometimes water gets into the dash and fries the computer ????? And of course its not under warranty. I drive an 18 M5 help ??

I have owned a 2019 and now a 2022 M5 with no issues, sometimes you get the bad apple. I hope the OP finds a car he is happy with.
