I own a 2022 M5 Comp and my thoughts are to give a big congratulations to the BMW M engineers who built a great car. As I stated on another thread, whether you own an M5 Base, Competition or CS you should feel very grateful that you are driving one of the best cars to come from BMW ever!
I couldn't agree more. Whichever one you own is just personal preference, but this platform harbors very special DNA throughout the range. It's one of the best 4 door sedans BMW has ever built imho.

Apparently no one reads the magazine anymore, it's very good. Unless it's on YouTube, it's not real.

Last year the ECotY live stream was funny, as all the magazine readers said the winner in the live chat and everyone goes "no you are wrong, and it hasn't happened yet"

The M5CS is the only modern BMW I have drooled over since the M3 CSL. Bravo BMW.

Damn I want an M5CS. What a beautiful, incredible machine. The M3 is a great car, but I'm sure they couldn't put anything with such an ugly front end in the top 3.

I typically want the highest trim of a particular line for myself, so I'd be lying if I said I haven't yearned for the CS. It's undoubtedly a better performing car when pushed to the limits, but the whole idea of it basically appeals to a different buyer.

I absolutely need car seats for my personal car so that automatically rules out the CS for me. I wish they had made it an option to have regular seats in the rear, as well as other color choices besides frozen paints and only gray as the non frozen choice. The CS would be perfect if I already had 2 family friendly cars, but then I'd probably be looking at dedicated sports cars at that point. The non CS M5s are perfect for being car seat friendly and having the best performance of basically all cars in that category.

I mean you still have basically 98% of the performance, but if you're like me and are OCD about having the highest trim it does bother you at times lol.

BMW M rolled a seven with the E39 M5 and sent every home as class was dismissed. BMW M rolls another seven with the E82 1M.

Ten years later BMW M rolls another damn seven with the M2 CS and then immediately does it again with the F90 M5 CS. Somewhere deep in Munich and Garching there are people that are keeping the fires burning brightly.

That's my exact issue. I always prefer to get the best performing one if at all possible. Unfortunately I had to turn down an allocation because I regularly use all 5 seats. Talking 3-5 times a week I'll have the 3 kids and my wife in the car.

In hindsight maybe I should have taken the allocation and then did a rear bench conversion lol. Would have been cheaper than retrofitting some of these CS parts that I'm currently doing.

Who gives a shit between 0-60 in 2.6 vs 2.7 vs 3.0. If that's what one cares about; one has clearly missed what the CS brings to the table vs. the Competition.

This is a massively good video & having 2 BMW cars in the lineup is a true testament to what the M group is currently building!

I myself have not driven an M5 competition, but I can compare the CS to my ‘18 base M5 First Edition, and the CS blows the base M5 out of the water.

Car and Driver was able to get a CS from 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, and a quarter mile time of 10.5 seconds. To compare, I believe the 0-60 time for an M5 comp was 2.7 seconds (also ridiculously fast), with a quarter mile time of 10.8 seconds.

Here’s the link to the Car and Driver article. I think it says the CS is not any faster to 60mph than an M5 comp, but it clearly lists the CS as 0.1 seconds faster, so not sure if the “isn’t any faster” is an oversight?

Evo's ranking has nothing to do with 0-60 times, it's not a drag race ranking. If the CS is a "massive" improvement it's most likely for its driving dynamics as cars seems to be evaluated on small twisty bumpy roads, straight line performance is most likely not weighting much in the verdict.

tbh i quite doubt that the M5 CS is a better car then the competitors in this video
No chance with the cost saving ZF trasmission
And why that ugly green thing is in this finale?

Oh man. evo magazine is going to be so upset when they read your response. I wonder if they'll have to reissue the magazine and take down this video after reading your comment.

The CS may seem to the outsider as just another highest trim of the M5, the video (I love EVO and think it’s definitely one of the better auto journals out there) posits that the experience is on a different level. Just because if looks very similar to a non CS model, it’s drives very differently. That’s hard to confirm unless one has driven both CS and non CS M5s. Can’t wait to get mine and compare.

Hopefully some of the components and software that make the CS such an amazing drivers car will trickle down to the Comp.

Yeah I don't think the suspension + hours of software tuning by expensive German engineers (as Johnny Lieberman put it) can be easily replicated with some parts.

That would only be a problem for a motor journalist which has for main job to be completely objective in his write ups / reviews, but that's not what he pretends to be. The guy has always been a BMW fan boy, says so himself, why can't he just be free to like whatever he wants and make videos ? I think he likes BMWs for most of the same reasons we do and we can relate to his opinions in a lot of the things he's testing because of this too. But i'm getting carried away off topic

Yes, but I never said it did, or meant to imply it did.
In the first part of my post I replied to the OP regarding the EVO video, and in the second part of my post, I simply mentioned what was noted in the recent Car and Driver article. The 0-60 times are mentioned in the latter, not the former.
