DIY Fuel Injector Replacement

Hey All, out of nowhere got the check engine light, after quick diagnostic says 10031C-fuel injector cylinder 7 " Minimal Quantity Adaptation". Have decided to replace that injector as well as all spark plugs. Did anybody have this problem or maybe some tips or links on how to replace singular injector. Thanks!

I have the service manual with the directions. It's not rocket science, just have to remove a bunch of 'stuff'. There is a good video of someone changing plugs on the M5 but the guy's phone battery died before he could video the DRIVER's side which is more involved. That was unfortunate. Too bad he did not just plug the phone in LOL.

The biggest impediment is having the balls to do it.

I'm in the process of getting ISTA+ running on a laptop. I have the cable. If I long term this car, I'd like to , I have to be able to DIY as much as possible. Spark plugs is the only thing I have not done yet as far as early maintenance items. The transmission service will be at 75000 miles or so, I guess. Sorry I don't believe in that lifetime transmission fluid BS.

Brakes are straight forward, pads/rotors. The brake fluid flush I had my 13 year old do, pretty easy. Transfer case and differentials was straight forward. New battery is easy but the thing is crazy expensive.

I really wish this was f labeled as a "diy". Now when someone searches this in the future they're gonna be really pissed off haha. Especially if this thing gets multiple pages long and they never find an actually DIY. Lol

Some one needs to write a good guide on here. Even if its straight forward I'm sure there a small nuances you have to know with these cars, that a mechanic would. I have 2016 GX460 that I do all the maintenance myself, and its genuinely straight forward engine. And the forums have DIY for pretty much bumper to bumper, including part numbers to to buy the right part.

I'm much more anxious to do maintenance on these German high performance machines, where some simple stuff can be convoluted. The instructions for my E63S oil change was something like you had to have the engine at operating temp and after shutting it down you only had 3 minutes to lift the car and drain the oil, otherwise some valves close and not all oil drains. That's just crazy compared to Toyota oil changes which are almost theraputic, to work on a GX. Pads and rotors do look easy just by looking at them.

Changing spark plugs on the E63S or more exactly getting access to them looks like a total nightmare, I'm pretty sure its the same on the M5.

The access is not too bad on the passenger side, it's the driver's side where you have to do some moving of the overflow tank. That would be a good time to replace it with the new BMW part made of aluminum wrapped in carbon fiber so it NEVER LEAKS. Price $45,000 but it's nice looking.

Do you mean spark plugs or injectors on the passenger side without moving the ECUs?

Not sure how old or how many miles you have, but generally when one injector fails the others aren't far behind, I'd suggest replacing them all if you're already gonna be taking everything apart.

In my experience it is possible for one to go bad and the others to be fine. But I agree on the labor vs cost of the new parts. I'd probably go with 8 new injectors, new coils and plugs while I am there.

It is also possible, but low likelihood, that in the 8 news ones you put in one could be bad....

I had 140,000 miles on the injectors in my RS6. I did pull them at an engine pull at 140,000 miles and just replaced the seals (o rings). The injectors were all fine (accept for the one my mechanic dropped LMOA). So I replaced one. The car was driven for another 10k miles before I sold it. The new owner drove it for a couple thousand miles and then wrecked it, D'ooh.

Thank you for the manual, I ended up replacing one injector that was bad (cyl 7)
a month go by... this time is Cylinder 5... feel like better to replace them all now, also wanted to ask what could be this issue caused by? Just time to replace the part that suppose to brake at 50k miles or something effecting it?

Those injectors are bank 2, which is drivers side. That is the side affected by leaking coolant tanks and some reports say the leak damaged the injectors. Maybe shorts the wiring? I can hose down my engine while cleaning under the hood without problems but maybe 200F coolant causes problems.
