CTS Intake Review?

I'm interested in the CTS intakes. I've been unable to find a video or review on them. Just wondering if anyone on here has them installed or knows someone who does that can provide feedback.

One of the LCI M550 guys said his 60-130 times dropped after he installed. Said he believes it was due to heat soak issues.

Many buy intakes just for the added noise. I would be more interested in the performance gains. These are totally unshielded. The BMS intakes retain the stock bottoms of the housings with the air duct, but use smaller filters in order to fit those bottoms and add only about 10 rwhp and only at pretty high boost levels of about 25 psi.

I would have to wait for performance data. As much as I don’t want to spend $2000, the intakes that are shielded or that move the filters out of the engine bay seem like the better design. Given the minuscule gains for any intake, though, this mod is pretty far down the priority list.

Yeah I'm in it for the sound car has plenty of power for me. Won't even bother with a tune till my warranty runs out. Plan on keeping the car for a while if possible. Also love the look of the PG intakes through the grill but it scares me being that exposed.

With the amount of external air flow that gets pushed through the front end where the filter sits, I highly doubt so called heat soak could be an issue. I know there was a guy that posted something about that on the Bms or Cts intakes, but I expect he had another problem.

+1 I have not seen any data regarding heat soak and/or decrease in performance

G30's have active grilles for aerodynamics. The F90 is always open, I expect this is a factor with open cone intakes.

I bought mine about 3 weeks ago and it was super easy to install. The sound is amazing. That being said I definitely felt a power loss. But what I noticed was there was almost like a flickering sound with the intakes at times, the car still pulled but definitely not as hard. I checked everything on the intakes and everything was nice and tight. I put back my stock air box and purchased some new K&N filters and removed the charcoal filters and the car feels so much better. The lesson I learned from this is either buy Eventuri or the Dinan Intakes instead of these or the burger intakes. That's my personal opinion I will be selling my CTS intakes soon.

I'll remove mine this weekend and see how the car feels with stock. If anything, it could be an air vortex issue or something due to the short pipe, tricking the MAF sensor.

How did it go? Planing to order this but curious about whether the open design may create problems.

Thank you!

I did the same, except I went with BMC intake filters.

Didn't get a chance to do it yet. I'll try to get it done this weekend, just been too lazy

I am thinking about the BMC. Any claims they add power?

Burger claims 10 whp at 25 psi. I wouldn't expect much from any intake if any at all.

I bought mine last night, before seeing this specific feedback. This was my worry with the open design. Didn’t care for increase in power as I’m not going to tune until after warranty expiration, and only wanted the noise.

Most of CTS’ kits for other applications have at least some kind of a half box design - not sure why they didn’t do so for F90. Losing power from stock isn’t the intent either. I’ll try mine and see if I get the same result as you.

Ok, so I've had mine now for a few months, and there is no noticeable increase or decrease in performance that I can tell (Dragy to back this up). Having said that, its 100+ everyday here in Austin, and night time temps don't fall below high 80s. Unfortunately, I don't have any Dragy runs to match the current DA, temp, humidity, etc.

Next I've read all the threads about IATs, heat soak, etc... So, I decided to do a little experiment. Albeit not the most scientific, I can't imagine the delta being off by too much. I ordered the following temp gauge from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H1RDJOI...roduct_details

Then I had to cut the wire to the temp sensor and solder and additional 3 ft of wire to it so I could see the display in the car and have the sensor in the engine bay. I verified with multiple other thermometers that its measuring correctly afterward.

Next I placed the sensor in the front entry to the passenger side cone filter of the CTS. This afternoon the ambient temperature in Austin is 101F w/ 32% humidity. I performed a series of tests and below are my results.
  • Freeway cruising @ 65-80 MPH - IAT 105F
  • Mixed residential/street driving @ 35-50 MPH - IAT 109F-117F
  • Stop and go traffic @ 0-25 MPH - IAT 125F-151F
  • Car running idle for 30 mins - IAT 141F

Given the above, I would be very surprised if the temps were different with the stock air box. Even if they were I seriously doubt that there would be enough difference to affect the performance where it was noticeable. For me, the sound difference is worth the price of admission alone (please forgive my terrible cinematography skills).
