21 comp transmission vs older?

Ive seen a few guys say the 21s+ have a different transmission? Where can I find info on the trans in this car and any other changes made to 21s (mechanically)?

Thx

It'd make zero sense for any manufacturer (outside of some serious failures) to change the transmission during a product life cycle. It'd be a nightmare - nothing would fit, everything was designed around the old tranny.

ZF tranny is still being used. The only difference might be the tranny tune / settings could be different. Shits all computerized now.
Now the manufacturer might be different. I've heard Magna being thrown around as opposed to Getrag, but if memory serves me correct, Magna purchased Getrag.

I didn't mean a completely new trans. I meant an updated version or internal tweaks of the existing trans. Im curious what the rated torque capacity is, etc.

The transmission change occurred starting around September 2020. Prior to that they utilized the ZF 8HP75, then moved to the 8HP76, which the M6 launched with. It came with updated management software and some upgraded internal parts that resulted in faster shifts, and shaving 0.1s off the 0-60 times.

Is there aftermarket support for these trans? Upgraded clutches?

Has anyone heard of tuned cars slipping them or blowing them up?

My car is 21…built in September 2020. How do I know that I got the updated tranny?

When I do launch control or full throttle launches, this trans shifts hard and fast. Those first 1-3 shifts are pretty good.

I believe all cars manufactured after 7/2019 (iDrive 7 - the new dashboard) come with the newer transmission.

That's limited to 100 launches, then it will slow down a bit.

That might be it actually. I was thinking model year. So around September 2019, the MY2020 cars started getting them. I'm not sure how to tell, except by your build date…

My 19 was built in 18. If I do more than 2-5 launches it starts to act funny and have some retarding of timing even if I let the car cool down. Also its tricky getting the launch control just right for good 0-60 times. Its as if you want to let the brake slowly and it will build more boost. One thing is for sure, it was easier to launch and better with my old 2016 RS7. It would allow you to build more boost and fight the brakes. These M5's don't let you do that or at least mine doesn't, the brakes interfer with loading. BTW what do you guys notice works best to achieve strongest LC (4wd or 4wd sport)?

I can’t say it is 100% true, but several people on here have confirmed they’ve noticed a difference once they’ve hit 100 launches, including the people from xHP, who provide aftermarket software for the ZF gearboxes.

It’s limited to protect the gearbox, supposedly.

Yes. Been confirmed by multiple forum members. I think it says it in the manual too, but doesn't give the actual number. Maybe thinking of a different manual though…
