Ironically as you mentioned, Mercedes-AMG who I would expect to go this route have not at all gone this route and are actually doing the opposite. Putting out models with substantive changes and being very transparent and telling us "don't wait for the next best thing because it's not actually coming." Their recent c63 facelift was basicly nothing which was pleasantly surprising and current c63 owners don't have to feel like they are driving yesterdays car. I think this is because Mercedes AMG has a strong personality running the show for so many years now (Tobias Moers) and he has kept a steady hand on the brand and made it more and more enthusiast friendly while BMW M has gone from enthusiast friendly to corporate greed in the vw/Audi style. Shame

Not sure the consensus or if there is one but the word competition under the M5 logo is a fail imo. Makes it look like Bmw is trying too hard. Let the car speak for itself.

I wouldn't spec the Competition Package just like I would avoid the Carbon Ceramic Brake like a plague, but that's just me. What BMW is doing is offering a slightly different flavor of the M5 at a price that most people wouldn't pay for. Not to mention the possible sacrifice in passenger comfort. Are you equally frustrated when Porsche releases the GT3 RS some months after the GT3? |

May I ask why you want the Comp Pack?
Is it the look of lower ride height? Sharper handling? Blacked out exterior trims? Slight power increased covered by factory warranty? Or something else? Not questioning your choice or taste, just genuinely curious from a marketing and product differentiation point of view. There is a reason why BMW is offering it, I just don't quite understand the appeal. |

But probably silly buying a first/launch edition when all the other cars are Comp Pack in Australia? I believe they are offering it because people will pay for it. They want the fastest newest thing they offer. There's a large market for that in this segment, why only go 90% of the way went most people buying an M5 can afford to go the extra 10%. Just my opinion, but BMW Australia know this hence why the Competition Package will be on every car sold from September |

Wheels look like garbage in the pics.....will have to wait to see in real life. M5 OEM wheels have been real disappointing....Competition or non-Comp. Need to have a nice-looking set of 5 spoke wheels for a car like this.
