European Delivery Options

I asked a question a while back but wanted to get more info. I've been living in Europe for the last 2 years and am likely heading back in the spring or possible summer of next year.

My thought was to do ED in conjunction with my move back. I'd want to keep it in Europe for a few months and then have it sent to my US dealer about 60 days before I actually move - so it's there waiting for me when I arrive. I think the issue that someone mentioned before was the insurance situation if I kept it in Europe for 3 months.

My question is, is this possible? As well, what are my options as far as drop off points in europe? does it have to be back in Germany? I live in The Netherlands and would prefer something local.

It's still a ways in the future so haven't spoken to any dealers yet.

thanks!

My understanding is that the ED process gives you 2 weeks of unrestricted use of the car with insurance; for longer than 2 weeks you can purchase additional insurance through bmw. There are numerous european ports outside of germany for convenience.....

Downside is that any location outside germany is subject to additional port fees/taxes that can add up (since if the car is not leaving germany directly but rather be "exported" to another european country before then moving on the to final destination)

I'm looking forward to it spring-summer 2019.... plan is to pick up at welt, drive lazy/moderate till break-in service @ 1200 and then have fun on the autobahn on the route back into germany to drop back at port no charge. Lots of experiences from others on-line doing the same. Enjoy!
