Interior wise, the M8 looks nice and modern, and has nice interiors (although full Merino is a must otherwise you get cheap plastics in the lower areas) but not very special for a "flagship" vehicle, but still nice, just not S-Class or GT4D or Panamera nice. M5 is pretty much the same, nice and comfortable, but not really special, good materials though.

The price of the GC is really what I'm not a fan of, although I'm sure that you could get a deal, but I'd prefer to have a lower price/lease with the M5 (non-comp) which can likely do 90-95% of what the M5 comp and M8GC can do.
Nod, that's completely understandable.

For me, if it's a luxury purchase (which the M8 sooooo is), I want it all. Satiating my gratuitous appetite for toys is expensive but it puts a huge smile on my face.

I had a 2000 E39 M5 that was bulletproof; but maybe it wouldn't really be considered "first-year", since it had been out in Europe for about a year before it was introduced to the U.S.A. Hard to say...

Looks are always going to be subjective. Some like the M5, others like the M8 GC.

For me, it came down to the understated good looks of the M5 over the "look at me" looks of the M8 GC. The M5 being the cheapest point of entry into the S63 4.4L V8 engine platform with defeatable 4WD was just a bonus.

I had a hard time justifying a $24 grand bump in price for the same performance platform.

See pics. These are nearly identically optioned M5 vs M8. Difference is $24k.

Assuming you get the full Merino in the M5, interior quality really isn't that much different. Plus, only the M5 can have the massaging seats!

Yeah for me it's a toss up between the two. New 8 interior disappointed me a bit. 5 looks a bit more traditional and dash design is showing a little age but the 8 isn't my favorite.

Have you owned both? I have. 2 x F90s over 2 years and 1 x M8C GC for 4 months or so. If you've owned both, then I'll respectfully disagree (other than the massage seats which is a personal beef of mine).

That said, though, if you haven't owned both, then I'm afraid you're uninformed...

Do it, you won't be disappointed. There's so much more there than first meets the eye...

Am I the only one that finds the badge placement on the m8 completely out of place? Looks like an afterthought
