Slim Thug: "5% tint so you can't see up in my window"

Who knows what reference that's from? [Note: if you have no idea, do not waste your time looking it up, if you do, don't blame me for wasting your time]

the % is the amont of light the flim lets in, so 5% film only lets 5% of the light in... 30%-35% is what I find to be most comfortable... I don't think any state allows 5% film for the front windows, I could be wrong on that though

Tinting

Sorry I don't have more time to go into more detail right now but DON'T put metallic tint on the rear window! It may very well screw up the radio antenna that's imbedded in/on the window. Use ceramic on the rear and metallic on the sides.

I used 18% (not legal in Florida) on my Alpine White 330i and paid $179 for the job from the outfit that does all the work for the BMW dealers down here. I did not go through the dealer but went directly to the tinter. They also do the rear window as a SINGLE sheet, not 2 or 3 pieces as most tinters do. It makes a real difference. I'll post a couple pics this weekend with closeups of the rear window.

I beg to differ with you on this point!

You CAN use 5% in Florida if you have a hadicapped tag on your car and you carry a white cane with a red tip!

I think some of us have the antennas on the outside of the car. Not sure if that includes reg radio. I have metallic tint on my old car, it doesn't affect the radio, but on my friend that has navi it messes it up bad (his antenna on the window, acura car).

So everyone is FL can have it

Hey when you have more time can you explain the difference/benefits between Metallic and Ceramic film... I had never heard of ceramic film until yesterday, is it new?

I will post the link again. This guy carries a bunch of tints and explains each one when you click on it on the right.

People told me that 3M tint is very good and that is the best if you don't want any problems associated with tints with metal. But i dunno about how long it last, the companies that use metals says that it won't fade into a purple color like the dyed tints. They all have the 10 year or lifetime of your ownership of the vechile warantee. My stand on tint is that how long and how good the tint looks is based on the installer. If the installer does everything top notch then you don't have to really worry too much about how long it will last. But these are things to ask for:

1) If they take the door panels off. As long as they do this correctly the tint should look perfect in the sides.
2) Do the back window in one piece,
3) use felt so the windows will roll up smoothly and to prevent scratches.

I have 3M 35% film on my windows in my loft and it is very nice... It has been up for 3 years and no imperfections, well a part from the usual bubbling in for the first few days... I would highly recommend 3M, you can't even tell my window has film on it until you open the door and see the difference.

I believe the 3M just does metallic films which I have always used for my cars also with very good results but from what other have said earlier it might be worth looking at ceramic films...

Just remember if you’re not happy with the installer tell them so and don't pay for it... But take into account that most window film takes 14 days to fully dry... when its wet it can become hazy and have bubbles which will clear up and disappear when fully dry.

I had a really nice tint job in my last car (bought it with the car) but it did start to get a bit purple at about 8 years old. I don't want to use metallic on the rear window due to the antenna. So I am interested in Ceramic tint but my installer doesn't offer it and he says it is really really expensive.

Oh man my friend had major problems with that. IT was a police magnet. Got pulled over 4 times in one night. Made him do drinking test, etc etc. Looking under the car for stuff. LOL it was nuts.

To those of you who have tinted your E90s: Were there any quirks? Did they have to install felt anywhere? I'd like to be prepared if I decide to get mine tinted.

Man, I would love to do that however I am sure Cops in TX would love to write a ticket every single day. I believe 35% is the best thing I can do around here.

I dont believe there any reputable brands and also I believe its directly related to the quality of the installer. You gotta ask around a lot.

Anyone has 50% all around?? Its kinda weird that people are mentiong 20, 35, 50%, and nothing in 40s. I had my Lexus tinted with 43% and I think its the best fit for black interior. Does 43% tint still exist??
