Pro Spoiler Install Issue?

So Im having a M performance pro spoiler attached and the dealership calls me and says there is a problem. The new spoiler doesn't cover the same area as the factory spoiler and they cant match the paint because of the frozen color. Has anyone else had this ridiculous issue before? If so how much of the area from the factory spoiler was covered by the M performance spoiler. Im worried that i will have an inch or so of mismatch paint on my trunk.[IMG][/IMG]

I installed mine but I have regular Alpine White paint. It definitely does not go in the same spot and I had to clean up the area and polish it a little. Not sure how to handle that with a frozen color. The factory betalink glue is a pain in the butt to remove. I used high quality 3m trim tape and cut the pieces to fit the underside of the M Pro spoiler and it fit really well. Didn't want to deal with the glue again if I decided to put the factory spoiler back on.

Crap, that sucks. Quick question though. How much if the old area dis the new spoiler cover? Was it a noticeable difference? I cant buff out the color differences. Frozen paint cant take it.

I think it mounts about an inch back from the stock one if I can remember right. It definitely doesn't cover the same area

Im hoping an inch wont be too noticeable. BMW really pisses me off with this kind of nonsense. If you are going to sell a Frozen paint option then properly train your techs in how to deal with it!!🤬

Trev,
Does the spoiler feel rock solid with just the 3m tape ?, im about to fit one to my car, and im unsure whether to use 3m tape or betalink ?. Ive fitted 2 M4 rear spoilers before with 3m tape, and they were both rock solid, and were not coming off, unless i was taking them off. Thanks for your advice ?.

I can grab mine and try to pull it off and it won't pull away. Now if I went and rocked it back and forth with excessive force then yes I could probably wiggle it loose in some places. I would really have to press and pull on it hard though. It's on the trunk really good. I did take a lot of time to cut the tape in certain areas to shape it the same as the spoiler, also doubled it up in some areas especially near the corners. Also, prepped the areas with alcohol, etc.. I taped it down overnight as well with blue paint tape.

before you get too far show the pics to a high end detailer in your area and see if he can do anything with it.

Id be willing to bet he can fix the shade difference.

Was the Frozen Paint job done with the spoiler in place? I thought the car was painted first and then the spoiler was added? What paint is under it? Just primer??

What happens if you have an accident? Do they ship the car back to Germany for a paint job??

Mike

The problem is that the adhesive leaves the paint blemished and it's very difficult to restore the original look.

If you can't get it right, just put the original spoiler back on.

Wonder if you could just get xpel stealth on the trunk after spoiler install. Just throwing it out there not sure if you would then see a difference with the rest

IMO dont mount the spoiler, its gonna bug you. If it was my car I would sell the spoiler and get one that sits on top and completely covers the area

Its a tradeoff, Orig. spoiler will cover area but falls short of an M spoiler whereas the Pro looks great but will leave the blemished area exposed visible up close only, 3rd option is the $1295 high kick spoiler which is twice the price and doesn't look as good as pro but will cover blemished area.
