Try that and let us know if that's it.
BINGO - this is the correct answer.
1. foot on brake, hold.
2. shut off car.
3. then open door.

Everything is off, just did this today.

I dont even need to do that because I did the "car off" setting in the I drive... I just need to shut off the car before I open the door but dont need to have the foot on brake.

I just came across this thread and was seeing the same inconsistent behavior when shutting the door, I feel educated now

Mine is still hit/miss whether or not the idrive screen stays on despite having the "turn car off" setting set properly. I just either close the door and open it again, or just lock the car. Minor issue.

I don't understand the problem with the way it is? I turn the car off, music keeps going, then I get out and lock it -- everything turns off. What did I miss?

My issue is/was (until I fixed the settings) is I dont lock my car in the garage. I park, turn it off, open the door and go drink beer. But the car stayed on until I figured out the settings.

You can also press and hold the volume control knob for 2-3 seconds and it will power down the cabin.

I've found that when you open the door with your foot OFF the brake everything shuts down as it should.

This is another bizarre one for sure and I've noticed it on mine as well. Just yesterday I parked it in the garage, turned the off button then opened the door. Got out, closed the door and the interior lights and headlights stayed on. Thought that was odd so I got back in, went to options, chose "turn car off" then got out again. Lights still stayed on. So I did it again. No matter how many times I chose "turn car off" the lights stayed on.

I left it for 20 minutes and came back and they were still on. I ended up locking it and everything turned off, but c'mon, that's random. I shouldn't have to lock my car in my garage just to get the car to turn off! LOL.

I'll have to check the settings as suggested here to see what mine is set to and try some of the other options suggested. Thanks, all!

I have the same problem. Dash, radio, everything just stays on. Can't get a rhyme or reason that's consistent
